Convention at Dallas;;

DALLAS. May IS. Tha dis
trict conrentlon of tha Neighbors
of Woodcraft opened its two-day
session hero this morning with a
full attendance of delegates from
22 circles in Yamhill, Marion,
Linn, , Benton, Lincoln and Polk
coat&es. A crowd of over ISO
delegates and -visitors attended
the sessions today.'
Dr. O. W. Bruce, pastor of tha
Methodist church, opened the
morning meeting at the Wood
man hall, with a short prayer.
This was followed by the flag
ceremony and a duet by Mrs. A. J.
Cleveland and Mrs. Virgil Bolton.
Mayor Lelf S. rinseth extended
the welcome of tha eltr to the
delegates and -dsitors. Floyd Me-
uann welcomed the visitors for
the local circle and Mrs. Teason
of Salem responded. Mrs. Amy Me.
Cann. guardian neighbor of the
Dallas circle, opened the business
meeting .and then turned the con
rentlon oyer to Alice M. Madden
of Newport, district guardian
neighbor, who will be in charge
for the blaance of the convention.

seren who founded the order of
Neighbors of Woodcraft at Lead
Tille. CoL, on April 1, mi, are
la attendance here. They are Mrs.
Helen Southwick of Salem, and
Mrs. Anna P. Hawkins of Toledo.
Mrs. Hawkins Is one of the three
grand managers of the original
tlon at the present time. - .
' The early part of the afternoon
session, held at the Woodman
hall, was devoted to regular busi
ness of the convention. This In
cluded the report of the creden
tials committee and appointment
of committees by. the district
guardian. At 4:10, the Juvenile
ritual was exemplified and this
was followed by a discussion of
the rituaL
At f:30, the first of two con
vention banquet was held at the
Dallas Christian church. The ban
quet was followed by a program
including a solo by Mrs. A. J.
Cleveland, the harmonica trio,
and two songs by the audience.
The evening session began at
t o'clock with a solo by Joseph
Hartley, followed by a Up dance
by Melra, Robinson. The district
officers exemplified the circle rit
ual which was followed by a dis
cussion of this rltnaL A report
of the Woodcraft home council
concluded the meeting.

Advertising of Silver Falls

It was agreed that the park has

Now that the road to the park,
via Sllverton, is in splendid con
dition and all of the falls are easy
to reach br trails, the auto camp
proprietors decided that the pres
ent is the time to advertise the
park to tourists. They plan to
plaee large photos of the various
Silver creek falls In their offices
snd cottages and to cooperate
with other Salem groups la pub
lishing a pictorial folder about
the falls.
J. D. Drake of Sllverton ad
dressed the auto camp owners
concerning the falls and exhibited
many of his photos taken there.

Meepelt left Scio Tuesday morn
ing: for Seattle from where she
will sail for Alaska where her
husband is. The last 500 miles
of her trip from Skagway Into the
mines where she is going will be
by airplane. Her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dick
Carlesov will occupy the Sturges
residence.

reported Thursday following an
Investigation covering a period
of several months. Schmidt
will act as supervising brewer for
the Salem Brewing association,
which was Incorporated here re
cently. Schmidt aald Hannchen barley
was superior to many other bar
leys produced In different parts
of the wrld, and especially was
valuable In the manufacture of
pale beer.
This bsrley has been produced
In vsrious sections of the Wil
lamette valley for many years
and the possibilities for its
growth here are now said to be
almost unlimited. There Is a
large acreage of Hanneheu bar
ley in Yamhill county.
