OREGOii WHEAT TO
BE THIRD LOWBt
5,670,000 Bushels is 1933
Estimate; April First
Farm Stocks Higher .
Forecast of winter wheat pro
dnction la Oregon "tor HIS. as
made by the Division or Crop and
Livestock estimates, runs at about
I. $70,000 bushels, about one
third of the 1I3S prodactlon.
AtU wheat stocks on farms ot
April. 1. this year, are estimated
at 3.410.000 bushels, compared to
1.043.000 in 1932. The April 1 es
timate on Washington prodnction
of winter wheat is 11,317.000
bushels, slightly over one-half of
the 1932 production; and abont
the same proportions hold for
Montana and Idaho.
March first planting intentions
as expressed by Oregon farmers to
the division of crop and livestock
estimates will probably show con
siderable change at actual plant
ing time due chiefly to unfavor
able spring weather conditions
which have been so unusual and
the effect on the farm crop pro
gram so pronounced that changes
caused by other factors sre rela
tively insignificant. This Is par
ticularly true of western Oregon.
AH spring seeding operations in
western Oregon are delayed hy
continued cold wet weather. Win
ter damage here, was the worst in
years so that crop prospects now J
are poor. East of the mountains
reseedlng of winter killed winter
wheat is progressing satisfactor
ily and is approaching completion.
The damaged acreage ranged up
to 100 per cent. AH grass and pas
tures are very slow In starting and
the lack ot green feed is having
a deleterious effect on lamb and
calf crops. One favorable circum
stance, however, is that the slow
melting of snows has lessened the
amount ot runoff and made pos
sible increased absorption by the
soil and the maximum benefit
will be derived. Some eastern lo
calities will be short of moisture
however, unless rains come soon.
As a result of these conditions
the winter wheat remaining has a
very low condition figure and
prospective yield Is below ave
rage. The forecast of production
is given in the accompanying ta
ble for the three Pacific north
west states and Montana. The
present condition of winter wheat
remaining for harvest in Oregon
Is very poor, the estimates, how
ever .anticipate normal conditions
from now untH harvest which
would be for th most part fa
vorable. MILS. HEN'DRICSOX ILL
MILL CITY, April 18 Mrs.
Ella Hendricson is reported to be
very 111 at her home In this city
as the result of a stroke Monday
afternoon. Due to Mrs. Hendric
son's advanced age, the attack is
considered more serious. Mrs.
Hendricson has been a resident of
Mill City for over 20 years.

PORTLAND. April 19. (AP)
Market for butter reflected a
generally steady tone locally even
with quite a fair Incresse in the
make and receipts, rastures were
getting somewhat better, but were
far from normal. Feeding opera

all districts and In some there was
an actual shortage ot supplies. .
With this in prospect the trade
was not anticipating any great in
crease In manufacture at present.
The season was the most back

Sales of butter on the open

With reports suggesting around
