Final prices were irregular, but narrowly so, and volume simmer ed down to 575,850 shares for the two hours, considerably less than the turnover tor the first half hour on Thursday. American Telephone, Loew's and Continental Can lost a point each, but with those and some oth er exceptions closing quotations for industries and utilities were small. Case and Harvester firmed fractionally, with Consolidated Gas and U. S. Steel. American sugar was up IH and South Porto Rico gained nearly 2. RaHroad equities had a rather cheerful appearance. The drop in weekly freight loadings 40.014 cars was somewhat smaller than had been anticipated in many quarters and although the trend is usually upward at this season. restrictions placed on business by the banking oliday were readily accepted as a plausible reason for the decline. There was no doubt of the in crease in the local make although to date it has been rery limited and somewhat scattered as to location. Some ehurners report their inability to secure their full needs. The weakness in San Francis co appears to nave dominated the local market in face ot Its own good condition of trade. Cat of lc all around in the buying price ot butterfat was practically general. Prices here range 15-17 lb. for cnurnmg cream with few paying above lie. Poor quality eggs the under grade stuff were creating; weaker tone in the trade here. Considerable northern stuff was being sold on this market because it cannot be sold to advantage elsewhere. All throrgh the chicken market prices were very strong with the possible exception of spring stuff. which is steady. Light weight hens are In best call and In greatest famine. All through the market for country killed meats there was a sustained price list for the weekend. Veal alone was inclined to drag somewhat and a carry over was again suggested Hogs and lambs In good call. UP I IK I General HarketS PXODUCS XCHAHOB PORTLAND. Ore. March 18.
