The Cheesemakers won 34 to 25 after Beryl Hodgen's boys had made it a close battle all the -way. Eugene was never threaten ed and won 32 to 10, though Paul Brown's midgets held Frits Kramer's squad to four points in the second period. Myles, shifty little The Dalles forward, was as troublesome to Tillamook as he bad been to Sa lem the night before, but Russ Rarey's squad managed to hold some sort of lead throughout the game. The Dalles started as usu al, shooting wild to trail 11-3 in the first quarter, then cut Tilla mook's lead to one point at half time, 13-12. Hedlger, scrappy guard, figured In the scoring for Tillamook for the first time, and even Burckard, Rarey's big deliberate guard, loft ed in a long shot for Tillamook's only score in the second quarter when The Dalles was pressing forward. Tillamook led by three points early in the last period, then "Dy namite" Baumgartner and his mates rallied to boost tbe margin to nine. The tight defense which Eu gene had demonstrated all sea son, reached its climax In tbe game with West Linn when the Clackamas county team was ac tually prevented from taking a shot In the firot four minutes. Eugene ended the period 11-1 to the good, and was ahead 15 to 4 after both teams had checked closely in the second quarter. Northam and Danner did the bulk of Eugene's scoring, while Irish was the only West Linn player to score a field goal. Of course you'll bo here all day today, bat many of yon will be headed homeward be fore the Sunday paper Is oat, so we're saying goodbye in plenty of time. We want to mention too, the pleasure that has been Salem's in having yon as guests this week. Hope yon enjoyed it as much as we dkL Everything has been Just fine, leaving ont of eonsideration the obvious fact that every time a game was played, somebody had to lose. In many respects this has been the best tournament ever held in Salem, because all of the teams were so nearly equal in strength, resulting in more close games than usual; and as it turned out, every team may go home with a measure of satisfac tion, either for winning a game or two or three or four, or for giving some notable opponent a worthy scrap. Also It's been the most flab bergasting affair, tossing ev erybody's "experting for rows and rows of waste baskets. In fact it became so woozy that one of the world's biggest news services, not the Associated Press, sent ont word that Til lamook beat Athens, and save some of the alleged details. Probably the reporter. Just through covering the legisla ture, asked somebody 'on the inside' who was going to win, and sent it ont that way ahead of time to score a "scoop." We have no defense in the world for Salem's booing, but must record at this time that it wasn't a bit louder than Lincoln's Friday night. The basketball championship will be decided to night, but we have no hope that the booing finals will end in anything but a deadlock. Gardner Knapp and his mechanical voice did a praiseworthy Job of stop ping the demonstration one af ternoon, but the battle of Verdun couldn't have drowned out Fri day night's outbursts.
