Employment bu reau yesterday reported 181 men and two women to work during thA week oast. Of these, 100 men were placed on the county's grub bing lot at Hopmere and 66 on ,nnrt work, which was begun Wednesday. March 14. at 6:30 o'clock. Each family will bring one dish for potluck meal. The program will be furnished by a rroup from the state school for the blind, and the main address will be bv Chester A. Lyons, spon sor for the boys' farm home at Lebanon. An effort is being made to have every boy of the Jason Lee church school present with his "dad". Medical Auxiliary Meets A number of local women belong ing to the auxiliary or the jtoik-Yamhill-Marion Medical society plan to attend a meeting at the University club. Sixth and Jef ferson streets, Portland, Tuesday to hear an address by Dr. Mor ris Fishbein, editor of the Ameri can Medical Journal. The arrair will be a no host luncheon given hy the Portland auxiliary end will take the place of the local suxiliary's March meeting. She will leave for Portland Thursday. SCIENTISTS 'IMPS' By P. B. COLTON (Associated Press Science Editor) WASHINGTON. March 11 (AP) Uncle Sam's scientists set a trap for an earthquake a few months ago and now a Quake hac corns along and jumped right into it. The trap really a series of 12 traps consists of machines de signed to record just how the ground shakes and shivers when an earthquake occurs. A know ledge of this Is necessary for sci entific construction of buildings designed to resist the "snap-the-whip" effect of earthquake shocks. Today scientists of the United States coast and geodetic survey on the west coast were on the way to inpect the traps, to see just how much earthquake knowledge had been caught. Both were ordered jailed for 10 days. Parked Car Hit; Driyer Arrested, Reckless Charge Oa complaint of A. Mattson, 2214 North Front street, X. H. Ellis, Jr.. 2030 North Commercial street, was arrested by city police late yesterday afternoon on a charge of reckless driving. Matt son said young Ellis, driving his car on the wrong, side: of the street, crashed into Mattson's au tomobile, parked in front of 1555 North Fifth street. On the Mattson ear a front tire was blown out. bumper broken and front portion of the frame bent, and on the Ellis machine. .radiator, fender and bumper bent as a rasult of the accident. E. Lee Steiner, superintendent of the Oregon state hospital, who spent the past month in southern California, returned here Friday night. He was accompanied by Mrs. Steiner. Dr. Steiner said the tourist business in California was light this year, when compared with previous seasons. Dr. Hill at Sheridan Dr. David B. Hill of Salem, member of the state board of health, will go to Sheridan Friday to give an illus trated lecture on teeth to children of the grade school there. He will remain for the parent-teachers as sociation program of health meet ing in the evening. One Mishap Reported One minor automobile accident was reported to city police yesterday. It was a collision between cars driven by J. B. Wilt, 670 North Winter street, and Hoover Nuens, route three, at State and Church streets. Damage to both machines was slight.
