H cup (scant) Baker's cocoa
gift all together seTen times
after each has been sifted before
as ensuring.
1 cups egg whites
H teaspoon salt
Beat until foamy and then add
1 4 teaspoon cream of tartar and
beat until stiff, but not too stiff.
Add 1 scant tablespoon ' lemon
Juice and fold in the dry ingre
dients a little at a time. Then add
1 tMinoon vanilla.
Use ungreased pan and bake
tor 1 hour at 325. Turn upside
down until stone cold.
FROSTING
Cream 2 cups powdered sugar,
generous piece of butter, and 1
tablespoon cocoa. Moisten with
at onf fp and flavor with vanilla.
Beat well and spread on cake one
war.

4 tsp. ' baking powder
1 tsp. salt
Cream shortening and 1 cup su
gar. Beat eggs until light and add
ether cup of sugar and beat again
until smooth. Combine mixtures,
then add chocolate dissolved in
hot water. Add milk and flour
alternately.

MAHOGANY CAKE
Dissolve 7 tablespoons choco
late in 8 tablespoons boiling wa
ter. Beat H cup butter and 1
cups sugar to a cream. Beat the
yolks of 4 eggs and add to but
ter and sugar. Add chocolate and
M cup sweet milk with tea
spoon soda dissolved In It (save
1 tablespoon milk and stir in 1
heaping teaspoon baking powder
Add last) 1 cups flour sifted
three times. 1 teaspoon vanilla,
Beat very thoroughly. Fold In
beaten egg whites. Add milk with
baking powder In it. Bake 1 hour
in a slow oven, or 20 minutes for
each layer.
MOCHA FROSTING
i cups powdered sugar, 2
tahiespoons chocolate, 4 tbsp.
menea butter, 2 tbsp. hot coffee.
2 tbsp. cream, tsp. vanilla. Beat
until creamy.

solos and was accompanied on
the piano by Mrs. S. D. Johnson.
