DEMAND FOR BUTTER SURPRISING;
advWceWeg'g PRICES COMING
Going up 2c on Extras
Ic on Standards
And Mediums
PORTLAND, March 4 (AP)
Butter trade conditions con-
tinned steady and generally
without price change either on
the produce exchange tor cubes
or on the open market tor both
prints and cubes.
Demand for butter was sur
prisingly good la all directions.
All along the Pacifie slope con
ditions were considered very fa
vorable. There was no change In the
price of butterfat for the week
end, a spread of 2c still being
shown among various operators
Chicken prices were being held
very firm along the wholesale
way tor live offerings. This ap
plies to all sorts. There was a
good demand for spring ducks
and a moderate one for old of
ferings.
Demand for turkeys continues
to exceed the supply locally and
the call to the country was not
being tilled. While there was still
a big flock ot turks in the coun
try, producers feel that1 better
price may be forced lster."
Spring Iamb was late in ar
riving in the country killed meat
trade. None have been reported In
as yet, the only offering being
a direct shipment to a retailer
who usually gets the first stocks.
Other dressed meats were held
steady.
Trade in onions was a trifle
slower locally with only a fair
call for shipping at the source
California was still reported out
of the market as a result of
growers' refusal to sell cheaper
there than to local parties.
