which prevented him from con
tinuing in that capacity while Al
Karasick and Sailor Frantz were
performing a week ago, it result
ed In the fans finding ont some
thing they hadn't known previ
ously; to wit, that Karasick and
Abe Kaplan were not exactly the
best of baddies.
Inspired by the show of affec
tion in reverse between Karasick
and Kaplan when the veteran
Abe was drafted as referee.
Matchmaker Harry Plant hustled
around in the next day or so and
signed those two up for a match,
and they will clash at the armory
tonight.
There la little to choose between
these two men, both of whom
have wrestled practically every
body who counts in the heavier
divisions of matdom; they use all
the approved methods, whether of
straight wrestling or of big-time
hippodrome, and they guarantee
thrills.
Both have wrestled here before
and neither Is highly popular, so
the fans tonight-will be able to sit
back and enjoy the slaughter,
without feeling called upon for
sympathy in case one or the other
Is getting the worst of it, nor ex
treme Indignation if one of the
other lapses Into quasi-homicidal
tactics.
Herman Olson, whose Greek
god dimensions had been almost
forgotten by the fans when he
was announced as a contestant for
last week's show, will clash with
Mutt Eddy, another occasional
visitor, in the one-hour bout.

town team also won from the
Tew Park team of Salem by a

The Hubbard high school was de
feated by the local high school
Friday night, the score being 27
to 10.

had little difficulty in defeating
Columbia university, 47 to 29, In
their basketball game here to
night. Bates, center for the Loggers
from Tacoma, was high scorer
with 18 points. Rossi was high for
the Irish with 15 points. The Log
gers got off to an early lead and
were ahead, 26 to 14, at half time.

(AP) The up and coming Uni
versity of Idaho basketball team
all but ruined the University of
Washington's championship chance
with a 47-to-3B victory in their
game here tonight.
Playing without their sharp
shooting center, Howard Grenier,
the Vandals took the lead in the
opening minutes and held It
throughout. Washington fought
desperately, resorting finally to
hopeless long shots.
P. Antoncich, Husky center,
drew first blood when he recov
ered his own tip-off and convert
ed in the opening seconds. A min
ute later. Hurley, Idaho center,
converted, and Lacy, guard, shot
another field goal for the lead.
In the closing minutes of the
first period, a Washington rally
led by Heaman and Galer, guards,
and Lee, forward, closed the gap
from 19 to 10 for Idaho to 21
to 19 for the winners, the half-
time score.
The second half was a repiti-
tion of the first, with Warner,
Idaho forward, and Hurley lead
ing an onslaught that took the
count to 27 to 19. Late in the
period Coach Hec Edmundson
shot In new combinations, but
none was able to break through
for consistent scores.
Ed Hurley, normally a guard
but thrown in at center when
blood poisoning kept Grenier on
the bench, and Lacy, guard, were
Idaho's outstanding players. Ga
ler, Washington's left guard, led
the Huskies' scoring attack, con
verting five field goals and four
free throws for 14 points.
Tonight's victory was the first
Idaho has won over Washington
since Coach Rich Fox took con
trol six years ago.

A shakeup, somewhat radical
but wholly tentative, has been de-
elded upon for the Salem nlgn
school basketball team by Coach
Hollis Huntington, who will try it
out in tonight's game with Che-
maw a Indian school at Chemawa.
Engle will bo moved from guard
to center, where It is already dem
onstrated that he has the Jump on
the two other candidates who
have been alternating; and Per-
rine will take his place at guard.
Engle however will continue with
his wonted defensive assignment,
and that will permit Mosher to
take over more of the offensive
burden.
Perrlno Is a good shot from
back of the foul circle, and his
new assignment as a guard may
put him in position for a number
of scoring opportunities.
Huntington however will not
know nntll he tries It out in to
night's game, whether this ar
rangement will work, and it may
bo that either Thomas or Morley
will he called upon to take the
floor early In the game.
The B teams of Salem high and
Chemawa will play at 7 o'clock
and the A teams at 8. Both games
were close when the same teams
met on Salem's floor several
weeks ago, and they are expected
to be tight again.

for Freshman Glee. Every year
the Wllatnette gym Is packed
for this event; counting the
chairs placed on the floor, the
place may hold SOOO, thongh its
basketball capacity Is two or
three hundred under that.
We're confident that practically
all of the people attending Fresh
man Glee would be glad to pay a
small admission fee, Just as an
admission fee. It's a show that is
worth a large admission fee. But
we are not advocating that. Each
freshman- class has paid the ex
penses of that show lu the past,
and It's only fair that each suc
ceeding class should do the same.
Back in 1018 that tradition
was varied in a way which
caused no criticism; a charge, a
dime as we recall it, was made
for some wartime relief fund.
The freshmen paid all expenses
as usual, and they and all the
other students who participat
ed, 1 1 id the admission fee as
well as the general spectators.
Conditions now are Just as un
usual, and Jnst as burdensome
for many people, as they were
in 1918.
So would It violate tradition
too much. If a small charge "rere
made, all of the proceeds going to
a relief fund? The fact that some
of Willamette's students are Just
as much In need as many other
persons, suggests that the fund to
be raised might be a loan fund for
students, but that's another ques
tion which we will simply 1c o
up to the freshmen. It's their
show.
