An Interesting program was pro

manity : elab' .meeting -Friday
night. ; The : program was opened
by - Frank i and ; Hilda; Crawford
pfaylng their steel guitars, accom
panied by Miss Dorothy Boric.
The main part featured a
mock broadcasting station with
Hobart Smith as announcer, who
Introduced the "VaudeTillians," a
group of entertainers sponsored
by Doollttle's Serrice station of
-Salem. Those taking part were
Mr.' and Mrs. Nile Pearce and Ho
bart Smith, -who gare trio num
bers on steel guitars, Tocal solos
and Jokes. Mr. and Mrs. Angus
Sterenson who gare readings and
harmonica, solo. Bob Mollne, who
gaTe a number of Scotch, Swed
ish andSpanish dialect readings,
which were rery well received. C.
" L. Slater gaTe several delightful
numbers on the saw, accompanied
by Mrs. Nile Pearce on the gui
tar. Neal Fischer gave vocal num
bers accompanying himself on the
ukulele. Miss Hilda Crawford
gave two banjo solos at the close
ot the program.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Ebbert and

Aumsville Maiden
AUMSVILLE, Feb. 14. Funer
al services for Ha Minnie Nichols,
16, were held Monday at the
Christian church with interment
in the Aumsville cemetery.
Ha was the only daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nichols, and
sister of Orvllle, Floyd, Franklin
and Elliott. She had not been in
good health for some time, having
undergone four major operations
in the past 18 months.

ciated. Pallbearers were Wayne
Ransom, John Sacre, Bert Brad
ley, Eugene Richards, Leonsrd
Snyder and Harvey Snyder.

Vie Thursday Night
INDEPENDENCE, Feb. 14
The Independence debate teams
will meet the Salem high debate
teams February 21. The Inde-
nendence affirmative will meet
the Salem negative team at Sa
lem, with Willamette. Judges offi
ciating. The Salem affirmative
team will meet the Independence
negative team at Independence
with Oregon Normal Judges. This
will be the last debate for both.
Dallas high school, with eight
points, is through. Independence
defeated Dallas once thereby har
lng two points. Salem lost to Dal
las twice but garnered two points
from the decisions, so either of
the teams debating Thursday has
a chance for first place if it wins
both debates by S to 0 decisions

Congar of Grants Pass who with
her husband visited the leglsla
ture on business.
W. L. La Due, water superin
tendent for West Salem, has a
crew of six men excavating for
sewer pipe laying for the block
on Rosemont between Third St.
and Plaza. The sewer will be only
a short one connecting the man
holes of the one block, a distance
of 275 feet, and will give a short
cut to the river on Rosemont, but
it is believed that It will give bet
ter drainage to basements in one
part of town by relieving the oth
er drains.

The quilt and relic show which'
was sponsored by the Methodist
church Boosters club was quite a
success. A large number of
quilts were displayed, both old
