Frank Lndaner, found guilty ol
attempted assault oa Theresa
Zaeh of Mt. Angel, was yesterday
at noon sentenced to seven years
la the state penitentiary by Judge
L. H. McMahan. No parole was
granted,
Lndsney persisted that he did
not do that for which a Jury con
victed him Thursday night after
19 hours of deliberation, and as
sentence was imposed was appar
ently on the verge of breaking
down. He was braced by his at
torney, and almost Immediately
regained his composure.
District Attorney Trindle, who
with Deputy Lyle Page prosecut
ed the case, agreed that Ludan
ey'i attorney might have 30 days
to file motion for a new trial.
However, it is regarded there Is
little likelihood t this.
Ludaney's brother was at the
courtroom door as Ludaaey went
out 'with Deputy Sheriff Bert
Smith, and as the convicted man
passed the brother broke into
soba. Ludaney's wife, who was
with him all the time during the
trial,' was not in the courtroom.

The cold weather is, adding
greatly to the trials of the many
men who are flulta willing to
work on the CommunityServlce
county court relief projects for
$1 worth of groceries a day, of
ficials at the relief office stated
Wednesday. Many of the men are
badly In need of warm elothing
and lack of usable shoes is gen
eral. Hats also are a much need
ed Item of apparel.
The lack of shoes among Ma
rion county's needy persons Is
wide, affecting women and child
ren as well as men. The relief
officiate sent out a call for still
further donations of shoes, hats
and other types of clothing. Per
sons desiring to give, away old
clothing may leave the garments
at. the relief warehouse, 149

Ream is Sentenced
" To 20 Years After
Trials at Dallas
DALLAS, Feb. I Judge
Walker sentenced L. H. Ream
to serre 20 yean in the state
penitentiary Tuesday for a statu
tory crime. Ream was found
guilty on this charge in both
of his trials here. The crime for
which ha was convicted was
against his 13-year old daughter,

Albert Winkleblack was grant
ed until Saturday morning to pre
pare for an arraignment In Jus
tice court on a charge of assault
with a dangerous weapon. He
waa arrested last week and was
