Fall Levels; Decline

NEW YORK. Teh. (AP)--The
decline in stocks slackened
today, bat incentive for a recov

skidded under par for the first
time since the first week of No

at 100, off a point. Du Pont
added a couple of points to yes
terday's drop and General Motors
eased a major fraction, while
Chrysler, American Can. Consol

Tobaccos were fairly steady de
spite recurring rumors of forth
coming cigarette price reductions.
Rubber stocks had a tire price
cut to contend with. Gold min
ing Issues, stimulated by the spec
ulative boom for those shares in
some foreign markets, jumped
briskly, Homestake soaring 8
points. Such lower priced issues
as Alaska Juneau, Dome and Me
Intyre Porcupine advanced a
point or so. United Aircraft de

CHICAGO. Feb. 2. (AP) In
dications that overseas buying of
Canadian wheat the last 48 hours
had totaled more than three mil

Wheat, however, eased off a

a severe cold wave overspreading
the United States by Sunday.
Wheat closed easy, unchanged

Portland Price cut
Comes; Hogs Lose
To $3.60 Here
Eggs hit a arw low with extra
wholesaling at lie ta the local
markets yesterday. Hogs went
dowa to 8S.II. Other eoaimodi
ties were aachanged.
PORTLAND. Feb. I-(AP)
A cut of le la the opening sell
lag price of eggs by the loeal co
ops, effective today, was aot si
surprise to anyone la the trade
In fact such a Movement of prices
was a trifle overdue inasmuch aa
most of the private firms and out
siders were selling at the lower
range or le below it for several
days past, - '
Indicating that someone was
catting still farther was the fact
that one large store was offering
extra eggs te consumers at IB
dozen Which is what the local co
ops (have been trying to obtain Ut
a wholesale way.
Necessity of the various sehera
of eggs stopping prevailing prac
tice of underquoting competitors
irrespective of what was nsmed
the open prices, appears a ne
cessity to keep values here from
disappearing altogether.
