PORTLAND. Jan. 21 (AP)
Fairly steady tone was reflected
in eggs aside from the movement
into the bigger retailers' hands.
Here price shading, almost always
general, was continued at values
1 to 2c dozen below the figures
established by the Pacific co-op?.
Complaints of prodncers who
are getting small returns, regard
ing the price shading tactics of
outsiders, were becoming more
general.
The advance in butter priops
again for the weekend, did not
appear inasmuch as It wag be
lieved that values hare already
reached dangerous ground. Re
cent manipulative interests here
and along the coast have created
considerable bullish sentiment by
deliberately withholding surpli
from the market.
There was Quite fair movement
of onions Insofar as foreign sales
are concerned and prices ere re
ported steady to firm at 5-3oc
cental and sacks and twine fur
nished by the buyer.

WOOD BURN, Jan. 21. Many
members ot the Woodbnrn Co
operative Ftnlt Growers' associa
tion whose fire-year berry con
tracts expire this year are again
signing contracts for a similar
five-year period, according to Ray
Glatt, secretary ot the association.
Although most of the contracts
were signed last year, the 10th
year ot the association's existent-?.
about 35 per cent bare contracts
expiring this year.
Glatt said that practically all ot
the 35 per cent had signed up Fri
day afternoon. Glatt has been
making headquarters in the Bank
of Woodbnrn this week in order
that the- contracts can be signed
without delay.
Despite the fact that there have
been rumors that the hops in this
district hare been injured by the
recent low temperatures, the dam
age will probably not amount to
more than a I per cent reduction
in yield. Some ot the hops that
were too near the surface were
froxen a bit. but the possibilities
of' curtailed production to any
great extent are slight
One grower stated Friday that
he had stored a number ot young
hop plants above ground and cov
ered them with straw. Only a
small percentage of the young
plants survived.
