Will Present Play Saturday AN unusually interesting regu lar meeting Is being planned by the American Association of University women for Saturday at Masonic temple. At this time a play is to be pre sented by a cast which includes Miss Genevieve Thayer, Miss Margaret Simms, Jack Minto, Vernon Perry, and Don Poujade. A sophisticated, subtle story is told in the play which is develop ed about the interwoven lives of two married couples. The clever lines and distinctive handling of them bids fair to make of the presentation of the play some thing very worthwhile. Mrs. George Burnett Heads Nile Club The Salem Nile club elected of ficers at its regular meeting this week with the result that Mrs. George Burnett will again serve the club as president of the or ganization for this year. Mrs. F. H. Crosby is the only new officer and she will serve as vice presi dent. Mrs, David Wright will j serve again as secretary-treasurer; and Mrs. George Davis will again serve as chairman of the sewing committee. Extensive plans were made for benefits to be given funds from which will be used for the large amount of aid given by the club to the Shrine hospital for children in Portland and for other philan thropic work accomplished by the club during a year's time. A noon luncheon was served under the supervision of Mrs. V. E. Kuhn assisted by Mrs. El mer J. Scellars, Mrs. Floyd Miller and Mrs. Fred Ellis. Covers were placed for Mrs. George Burnett, Mrs. D. X. Women's Club Has Excellent Meeting THE Saturday meeting of the Salem's Women's club prov ed a very busy on with ad dresses given by Mrs. J. H. Hof mer of Silverton, president of the third district of the State Federation of Women's clubs and an interesting and instruc tive talk by Mrs. Sophia Allen of Portland who talked concern ing the work of the Travelers' Aid society in regard to delin quent girls. Mrs. Allen gave ex cellent compliment to t,he man ner in which the women of the Salem police authority cooperate with the Portland society. Mrs. Hofmer Introduced the president of the Junior Women's club of Silverton. and told of the organization and its work. This is the first such club organisation in the state and marks the be ginning of a new department in the state organization. 8pecial music was given under the direction of Mrs. M. D. Mc Callister who has charge of the music programs for the next two months. A quartet of Salem high girls, Gwenn Gallagher, Eva Cochran, Joyce Phelps, and Jean McElhinney accompanied by Mar Jorie O'Dell sang. Mrs. David W'right gave a po em from the pen of the late Clara Barton of Salem and Mrs. George R. K. Moorehead gave an inter esting picture study. Mrs. G. B. Bentson. Oregon products chairman for the state federation, spoke concerning loy alty in using Oregon products and urged her listeners to make special point of this. Mrs. Charlee 8paulding, chair man of the relief committee re ported that there was much ma terial to be made into plain ar ticles! of clothing for Red Cross use and that any volunteer ser vice from any matron or maid of the city in sewing this mater ial Into such clothing would be much appreciated. Those desiring to volunteer call Mrs. Spaulding. The next meeting of the club will be January 28 at which time the program will be under the direction of Mrs. W. H. Byrd, chairman of Indian Welfare work. Miss Gertrude Eakln of Chemawa will be the speaker and a group of Indian girls will give the musical prograjn. This will also be a tea meeting In special compliment to the visiting wom en in the city during the legis lative session and to the wives of state officers.
