This was done in keeping with the Fulkerson plan of instruction being carried on In the school by the teacher. Mrs. Grace Dunagan. Children participating were: Margaret. Violet and Clarence Land wing; Joe, Anthony, Fran cis and Margaret Bielenberg; Eve lyn Taylor, Bobby Schmaltz, Karl McKillop, Charles Wade, Stanley Rich, Eugene Ennis, Leo Vinrent and Albert Gorsch. The children will return to school January 3. Among the holiday family gath erings here was tnat at the J. N. Amundson home, where all the children were present: Mr. and Mrs. George Krause and daugh ter of Portland; Mr. and Mrs. Van Ness Johnson of Tangent; and Miss Beatrice Amundson of St. Paul. Mr. and Mrs. George Hay lies and son entertained his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Thad Dwyer of Newberg and his cousins, Charles Haynes and Miss Mamie Ilayms of Tort land. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Magej and sons at Crook, d Finger wen? hosts to Mr. and Mrs. A. Muck and daughter of Falls City, Mr. and Mrs. Hanz Zieglcr or Corvallis, Miss Emily Magee, who has spent the past year in California. Numerous Family Gather ings Highlight day for Rural Homes SCHOOL CHILD HEN GIVE FINE PROGRAM NORTH HOWELL, Dec. 2g Christmas day passed Quietly as usual here with family dinners and home affairs, the only com munity program being the one at the school house Friday after noon. Mr. and Mrs. Ovid Coomler and family, Mr.and Mrs. Floyd McCar rol, Mr. and Mrs. Elvln Pruitt of Salem were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Coom ler; Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Rickard and family drove to Eddyville for the day; Mrs. Warren Gray and daughter Dorothy of Marion and Ralph Hifrgin of Seattle, were callers at the A. B. Wiesner home; Alan Wiesner of Portland was also a guest at his parents' home over the weekend. The Charles Hagan family en tertained with a family dinner Christmas day. including Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hall and children of Silverton. Mr. and Mrs. Evan Beals and littlo son. Mr. and Mrs. August Woelke and daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Hen ry Hagan and Mr. and Mrs. W. McGarvey were dinner guests at Mrs. M. Enf:ebretsons' In Silver ton. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Stevens enjoyed the Christmas day with Mr. and Mrs. Ward Manning and the two grand children at Gervais, and Mr. and Mrs. N'ick Richter and family were dinner guests at the A. T. Clin home. ROCKY POINT, Dec. 28 An Interesting program and tree was sponsored by the Rocky Point school Friday night. The program interspersed with songs by the va rious grades, included: dialogues, "Christmas Crazy Class," by Grace Knapke, Bernice Lam brecht and Hazel Blocher, Leon ard Stuhr. Fred Montgomery and Paul Blocker; "The Stranger Child," Germaine Etzel, Anna Blocker, Elven Shatto, Rhinart Smith, Johnny Shambergor, Pearl Shatto and Alice Blocker; "Extra Stocking," Angle Shamberger, Fred Montgomery, Earl Blocker and Norris Hunt Jr.; "Christmas Aerastic,'" by the primary grades; readings by Fay Montgomery, Al ice Blocker, Pearl Shatto. Norris Hunt Jr., Earl Blocker, Lyle Montgomery, Anna Blocker, Ruth Williams, Elvln Shatto, Fred Montgomery, Paul Blocker, Ber nice Lambrecht, Germaine Etzel and Angle Shamberger; Miss Ag nes Walker gave two vocal selec tions accompanied by her sister Gertrude Walker on the guitar, r Henry Tate entertained with a Christmas dinner Sunday. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Mar ion Hunt and family, Mr. and Mrs. N. E. Hunt and family. Mrs. J. T. Hunt and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tate. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Knight are the parents of a baby son born at the Deaconess Hospital Monday evening. This is the first child. - while, BETHEL SHIM HI AUMSVILLE, Dec. 28 Din- Two Couples Wedded Long At Silverton SILVERTON, Dec. 2S That January weddings are "good," two Silverton couplos will vouh for. Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Steelhammer will observe their 61st wedding anniversary here January 6, and Mr. and Mrs. Marcus L. Latham will observe their 6 8th anniver sary January 13. Both anniver saries wi.l be the occasion for quiet family gatherings. Mr. and Mrs. Steelhammer were married at Winoan, Minn., Jan. 5, 1871. In 18S2 they moved to North Dakota and in 1891 they came to Silverton, where they have sines made their home. For years Mr. Steelhammer personi fied Longfellow's "Village Black smith" to Silverton school chil dren, who were never told they were In the way when they step ped at the shop to watch Mr. Steelhammer at work at the an vil. Mr. Steelhammer has in years gone by served in almost every political office and has been as sociated with county politics. A lew yean ago, no gathering in the local community was perfect unless "Daddy Steelhammer," as he is still called, was there to make a "speech." Mr. Latham Is Silverton's sole remaining Civil War veteran. He was born on August 11, 1841 at Troy, O., and In 1861 he enlisted with the 41st Ohio Volunteer In fantry. He served with this unit until he was wounded three years later. It was while be was on a furlough that he was mar ried on January 13, 1864 to Mrs. Latham, then Miss Marcia Weaver. In 1865, Mr. Latham re-enlisted and served seven months with the 18th Ohio Volunteers. Interment is Made , The burial of the remains of Mrs. Mary Davis was held at the Aumsvllle cemetery Monday morn ing. Mrs. Davig passed away at the home of her daughter at Al- sea with the funeral at Corvallis and interment at Aumsvllle. Mrs. Davis was at one time a resident of this place. A Christmas tree and program was also given at the Bethel church Saturday night, with these folks taking part: Rev. Otto Fu son, Ida Pomeroy, Evelyn Castle, Willie Castle. Dec. 28 The Pringle school held its annual Christmas program Friday, even ing under the direction of the teachers, Mrs. Clara H. Rees and Mrs. Julia Starrett.
