PALS NEW WHEAT CROP FACTOR III 1IET Disturbed Situation Causes Small World Movement Last Week, Shown New wheat crops were an im portant factor In the wheat mar ket the past week, and a disturb ed situation in the market reflect ed the smallest world movement in recent years. Market News serv ice reports. Large aress in Kansas, Nebras ka, Oklahoma, Texas and Colorado were particularly in need of mois ture and the crop deteriorated daring: the week in many sections. The condition of winter wheat in the western third of Kansas was reported at only St per cent of normal, with soma counties as low as 15 per cent. An average condl tion of 65 per cent is reported for central Kansas. In Europe, dry weather prevailed in many parts of the Balkans, and germination is irregular. Seeding made satis factory progress in Germany and about the same acreage as last season has been seeded in France. Russian seedings at the close of November were about 5,000,000 acres smaller than last season, with the largest decrease in win ter wheat areas. World shipments of wheat, in cluding flour, during the four months' period August through November, totaled around 155, 000,000 bushels, compared with 275,000.000 bushels for the cor responding period last year. The bulk of these shipments, as is usu al in the fall months, was from North America. United States and Canadian overseas shipments dur ing the period totaled about 127, 000.000 bushels as against 125, 000,000 bushels last fall. Argen tine exports since the first of Aug ust have totaled around 14,000, 000 bushels compared with 26, 000,000 bushels last season and Australian shipments about 29, 000,000 bahels as against 32.000,- 000 bushels through November last year. At Portland futures prices de clined about lc and cash about c during the week, while in Cal ifornia prices ranged unchanged to slightly higher. The outstanding feature of the northern hemisphere shipments this seagott is the increase in Can adian and the decrease in U. S. exports. Last season the U. S. sent overseas about 65,000,000 bushels of wheat and flour from August 1 through November and Canada about 60,600,000 bushels. This vear Canada ha? shipped around 105,000.000 bushU and the U. S. only a little over 20,000.000 bush els. Over half of this came from Atlantic ports and shipments from the Gulf ports and the Pacific coast have been unusually small. WALL STREET IK Tl NEW YORK, Dec. 5 (AP) Stocks had a leaning toward firmness today. Transactions totaled 7.9,219 shares. Owens Glass, which had been more than 2 points higher, show ed an extreme loss of similar size, although the net decline amount ed to 1. Crown Cork & Seal dropped a couple of points. Alco hol stocks were steady, while coca Cola hopped up 3Vi net. Ralls did well while the list was rising. President Storey of Santa Fe indicated his belief that the directors would Tote a regular semi-annual dividend on the pre ferred, although there had been no intimation that any unfavor able action was contemplated. Santa Fe, Union Pacific, New York Central and Southern Pacific clos ed virtually unchanged. Encouragement In Wool Buying Noted at Boston BOSTON, Dec. 5 (AP) Large offerings of wool appear to be quite firm, and holders look with encouragement upon the re cently Increased activity In buy ing" Limited quantities however, are still available at prices slight ly under recent quotations. Late last week medium grade fleeces showed a tittle steadier tendency. Receipts of domestic wool at Bos ton, during week ending Decem ber 3, estimated by the Boston grain and flour exchange, amount ed to 4,843,100 lbs. as compared with 452.300 lbs. during the pre vious week. Receipts for the year amount to 208.917,600 lbs. com pared with 250,378,300 lbs. dur ing the corresponding period laat year. The 11 EGGS DOWN GRAIN UNALTERED, REPEAL VOTE Onion Prices Stiffen As Growers Hold; Oranges Fall Eggs dropped another cent on the local market Monday morn ing, with the new top 22 cents on extras. Standards bring the farm er. 21 cents and mediums, 19 cents. Pullets are quoted at 15 cents. Hogs dropped 25 cents a hun dred yesterday, to top of $3.50, while other livestock remained unchanged. Dressed hogs are down the lowest in many weeks, to 4 cents a pound. Local unloading of a carload of place pack organges at $1.50 wholesale will bring the retail price of this grade ot navels down to a range of from 10 to 26 cents a doxen within a day or so, it is anticipated. Place pack navels have been quoted from $2.25 to $2.50. wholesale. Onions prices are stiffening, and Labiah growers are holding as many back as fc-cible for expect ed higher market. HOGS LOW Crop Forecasts are Favorable; Corn, Wheat Weaken CHICAGO, Dec. 5 (AP) De feat of prohibition repeal stirred much Interest among grain trad ers today, but hardly the slightest unusual change in price. Announcement of the prohibi tion rote reached the board et trade five minutes before the close and in that Interval the quotations on barley held exactly unaltered. Corn weakened 1-4 cent a bushel and wheat 1-2 cent. A sharp decrease in the United States wheat visible supply total, together with reports of big over seas buying of Canadian wheat unfavorable crop advices from do mestic winter wheat territory and from Argentic, as well as pur chasing of wheat for flour manu facturers who looked to possible adoption of agricultural domestic allotment plans by congress were largely responsible for general price upturns that preceded the Washington vote adverse to pro hibition repeal.
