are a popular breed there, stated
Brewster, and Red Leghorn chick
ens are a favorite class, especially
among the Chinese. Host of the
poultry breeding stock comes frem
the western coast of the United
States and the Islanders use wire
flooring for the poultry houses
exclusively.

harvest Is nearlne completion at
Sllverton. The erop is heavier
than it has been in years and the
quality is said to be superior. Oae
of the oldest orchards around
here is that of S. Ames whose SO
acres were planted some IT years
ago. Mr. Ames expects a yield of
around 15.000 pounds from the
20 acres.
The largest acreage in the Sll
verton community is that of Roy
Morley who has 100 acres in
bearing along Butte Creek. Mr
Morley has the distinction of be
ing the largest Individual grower
in Marion county and he is esti
mating his crops at 3,000 bushels.
Fifteen pickers are gathering the
nuts. As a whole the pickers ave
rage about 20 bushels a day.
