M peck tomatoes
3 red peppers lf
; 2 medlnm-slza onions, cut fine
2 tablespoons . salt
- cup sugar .
, 2 cups vinegar -:
2 teaspoons celery salt
2 teaspoons ground mustard
. 1 tablespoon whole allspice
" 1 tablespoon each--cloves, cin
namon, paprika.
'Cook tomatoes; peppers, onions,
together ! without -adding water.
Press " mixture through strainer
and measure pulp. To 4 quarts
pulp add the salt, sugar and spices.
Place whole spices in a bag during
tl'e cooking and remove bag be
fore pouring the catsup' into Jars.
Ground spices except paprika will
darken catsup. Long slow cooking
also gives a dark color. Cook In
gredients together except Tiaegai;
rapidly for 1 hoar, add vinegar
and cook mixture until it is thick.
Seal In clean, hot Jars. It should
be bright red In color.
Boiling. Water Pie Crust -
-1 cup shortening -
cup boiling, water.
3 cups flour ;
'1 teaspoon salt. -
Beat the shortening und hot
water to a cream by adding a little
of the water at a time. Then stir
in the flour which has been sifted
with the salt. Use enough, flour
to cause the mixture to clean the
bowl. This dough must then be:
placed in refrigerator and; thor
oughly chilled before It can be
used. It will keep yery nicely Tor
a -week or 1 0 days and-: can ' be
used when desired. Bake In 450
degrees oven for 10 minutes. To
store roll in waxed paper. . . . -
