J. Dixon, general manager of the Pacific co-ops, indicates that in practically all positions the local market stands on " firm ground. No changes were made tn -other sizes. The advance in pul lets suggests not only a greater call but a lessened supply than seasonable. There still appears a disposition oa the part of outsiders to wreck. the Portland market by their ss of undergrade to some ot tb, larger consumers, the Journal said today. These are taking the4 place ot good eggs and naturally keeps thla market from showlr.ff the strength the actual situation demands. Little change is shown outside markets for recent days. There was no change in general butter market trading for the weekend. Market for chickens is very " much inclined to show steadiness here. Oct. 8 The pruna barrest Is completed in this dis trict. There were 13 driers In op eration during the season, putting out 550 tons ot the dried fruit which meant 1650 tons of green fruit. Besides this there were sev eral growers who sold their prunes green which would raise the amount of green fruit harvest ed to over 2000 tons or four mil lion pounds. Approximately 150 men wers employed in the driers. If the price received could be made to sound . anywhere nearly as large as the tonnage the grow ers 'of the Keiser district would certainly think the depression was over. But with the fresh fruit at six or even ten dollars a ton and the largest dried prunes tt 3i cenU a pound, farmers wish that the prune trees were walnut trees. The walnut crop in this vicinity will be large this year and the quality Is beyond the average. Filberts are quite extensively grown too sad the crop is im mense. Several farmers are now filiint; their silos, a diversion from fruit. The apple harvest is on bow but will be a short season, for tha crop is small, probably not mora than a fifth, of last rear's yield.
