The school house has been renovated thronghont, and some plaster board will be put on the walls of the basement. A full corps of teachers have been employed. Miss Bertha Dil lon will have charge of the pri mary department and will teach physical education to all grades. MIsb Margaret Sin Clair as teacher of the third and fourth grades will teach music to the grades. Miss Frances Pierce will have charge of the fifth and sixth grades and will Instruct all grades in art. Mrs. Flo Young will teach the seventh and eighth grades and will also teach writing. Lyman W. Patton will start his third year as principal of the schools here. Miss Maude Durfee and Miss Frances Chambers will teach in the high school again this year. Mr. and Mrs. Charles McKee, Miss Marjorie Fontaine and Lin coln Waterman left for Portland Sunday morning, where Miss Vir ginia McKee joined them, and the group motored to Mt. Hood and were dinner guests Yjf Lincoln Wa terman's parents, the occasion be ing the birthday anniversary, of Mr. Waterman. 'i Olive Manning Teacher WACONDA, Sept. 12 Miss Olive Manning of St. Louis will teach this year at Waconda school which opens September 19. Work on this three-mile stretch was started last winter when relief work of clear ing brush began. Isaac Bantsaari had started the fire in a stubble field on the Howard Stephens' place. The blaze escaped his control and spread rapidly through the wood and up the canyon. Prune pickers In Sipola's or chard were the first to notice the fire at 3:30 p. m. and tried to ex tinguish It. Many wen from the neighborhood quickly gathered to their aid and after various at tempts were able to stop it at 9 by a ditch. It covered 40 acres before it was under control. Mrs. Fred Hunt Hurt in Crash; . Sloper is Held INDEPENDENCE, Sept. 12 A serious accident occurred Sat urday morning at the corner of 4th and Monmouth, when Fred Hunt of Salem swung his car out of the way to avoid hitting a car coming down 4th street. Hunt turned his car square to the right, and upset his auto. Mrs. Hunt was seriously injured and the baby was bruised up. The car landed square on Hunt's head, and would have kill ed him it a group of men who were at the funeral home at that time had not lifted the car. off. Hicks, chairman of the Mc Laughlin school board has an nounced Miss Lois Riches as the teacher In that district for next year. Miss Riches, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. R. Riches, has always made her home in the Hills. She was graduated from the Silverton high school and the normal at Monmouth.
