Soon aft el all connections were made, the power was turned on the new pump, a turbine, size six, Fair banks-Morse, and in a few min utes the, pomp and lines were chocked with sand. Heretofore the well ' had supplied the old style cylinder type of pump, but it seems the sandy formation at or near the bottom of the- well must have given way to the increased capacity of the new equipment. : It became necessary to send the pump to the Fairbanks-Morse people at Portland, - taken apart and thoroughly cleaned of ' the sand. 'Afterward it was apparent a new one would be needed to provide for the greater capacity demand of ' the . new pumping equipment.
