held at the Dallas city, park on
Labor day. Various committees
havo been selected to take charge
of the arrangements and are
working on these now.
The affair will be a real old
fashioned picnic with speakers, a
free barbecue, athletic events,
musical numbers, and water
sports. The program wui atari
at 10 a. m. and four Danas are
scheduled to-be on hand for en
tertainment. There will be the
Dallas city band, the Dallas high
school band, the Kilty band from
Salem and a harmonica band.
Speakers will be Louise Palmer
Weber, Walter B. Gleeson, James
W. Maloney. Harvey Starkweath
er, Ray Wisecarver and others.
The picnic will be in tne iorm
of a real democratic rally and
will be the first of its kind held
here for several years.
MRS. MURRAY ON TRIP
DALLAS. Aug. 25 Mrs. Mir
lam Murray and daughter Patty,
left Portland Thursday night, for
Greeley, Colorado, where she will
islt with relatives and meet her
rister Agnes Davis, who Is coming
out to Colorado for a brief visit.
Miss Davis was the first winner
of a national Atwater Kent radio
audition, and has completed her
studies. Last winter she sang
with the Philadelphia civic opera
company and during the summer
months studies in Europe.
DOW HOME BURNS
NORTH HOWELL. Aug. 25.
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Guy
Dow. who have lived in and near
this community for many years
burned to the ground last Wed
nesday while Mr. and Mrs. Dow
were in Portland. Nothing was
saved and there was no Insurance
MRS. BUMP MOVES
NORTH HOWELL, Aug. 25
Mrs. Elvira Bump, a resident of
North Howell for over 25 years
left for Portland Wednesday
night where she will make her
future home near her son and
famllr. Mr. and Mrs. Charlton
Bump.

Week Visiting Home

Genevieve Winslow. daughter of
W. C. Winslow of Salem was a re
cent visitor here, spending a week
at the Oliver Whitney home. Miss
Winslow is a niece of Mrs. Whit
ney.
The Snyder family who bought
the Wilkenson home at Brush
College a year ago have moved to
Salem where he has employment.
The F. J.. Woe Ik and Sons
thresher completed harvesting
late grain on the John Schlndler
farm Tuesday. Most late grain
has now. been harvested.

and Mrs. J. A. Bennett were hosts
this week to Prof, and Mrs. AI
fred W. Beatle who were on their
way to Riverside, cam., wnere
Prof. Beatle will teach in the Jun
ior college. - Prof. Beatle will
teach in the foreign language de
partment. Prof. Beatle taught in
the Silverton high school for two
years and later attended the Uni
verslty of Washington where he
obtained his master s degree.
