attention to the fact that the
shortest route to the eoast beach

ter E. Kelly. Portland architect,
and. la lettered in red and black
on an ivory background , The let
tering; waa done by Charles Ben
nett of Tillamook who waa for.
merly located at Dallas. The fire
men secured permission to' erect
tne sign at this spot from R. W.
Hogg, owner, ot the property.
' Two slogans appear on the sign
ealllnr attention to the fact that
Dallas is a city of "good homes,
good schools, and a friendly peo
ple" and that Dallas Is the "gate
way to' Oregon beaches.'.' These
slogans were secured at a contest
held ' last spring among high
school .students. The first prise
slogan was that ot Mabel Warrell
and the other, referring to the
Oregon beaches,- was by Edward

The Orr'a Corner cut-oft is
convenient way to the Tillamook
and North. Lincoln beaehea and is
also the shortest route. , It Is four
miles from Orr's Corner to) Dallas
and about XI miles from Dallas to
VaUey Junction - by way of the
Wallace Bridge Toad. The roads
fork at Valley Junction and the
tourist can either take the Salmon
