TELLS OF A glimpse of the work done by the Marion county Sunday school council of Christian Education is contained in the following state ments from the presdent, Fred de Vries of Pratum: "Since" Oregon has no general secretary to supervise the work of the state, Marion county council works as a separate unit, is not receiving help from the interna tional council and is pot support ing it in any way. County and dis trict council officers receive no financial return, but travel hun dreds of miles each year in the Interest of the Sunday school work in the county at their own expense. "All that is asked is a small contribution from each Sunday school, from a dollar to five dol lars a year, according to size and ability of the school to pay. All money received is used for print ing and postage, except, in a few cases of paying traveling expenses of outside speakers. "Thousands of copies of help ful literature are distributed ev ery year among the Sunday schools in the county and at the state fair. This year, the council will add 1000 gospels of John to the supply of literature as soon as funds for such are received. Hayesville district s still at the head of the list with the largest number -of Sunday schools and also with the largest contribution by one school, the Mennonite hav ing naid $5. "Much more can be done, for wherever we go, we find people whoso heart Is in the work. So, deoresslon or no, the work of the council is going forward promot ing sound scriptural doctrine. In its 40th annual session here, put Itself squarely behind the 18th amendment and the Vol stead Act Thursday by the unan imous passage of the following ac tion: "Oregon Yearly meeting o! Priends, with over $000 members in Oregon. Idaho and Washington, views with' extreme concern and disapproval the etfots toward the repeal of the Eighteenth amend ment and supporting legislation. Recognixing the evils that exist today through disobedience to law and failure of perfect enforce ment, we recall that laws for the Control of the liquor traffic have always been largely defied and disobeyed, and have in many plac es ' been inadequately enforced, and sometimes disregarded by of ficers of the law. The evils of the present situation are not due to prohibition but to the same law lessness which has always been associated with the liquor traffic. "We urge the president of the United States and his cabinet, our representatives In the house of representatives and the senate of the United States, and our political representatives, to stand true to our ideals of law enforcement, and to resist all efforts for the repeal of the Eighteenth amendment and its supporting legislation." Vigorous resolutions were also adopted calling on the member ship of the Yearly Meeting resid ing 'in Oregon as well as all friends of good government, to rally to the support of Oregon's Bone Dry Law and promote the defeat of the efforts of its repeal.
