Twenty tire years ago at a 4th of, July picnic sponsored by the commercial club, when the multi tude was served with barbecued ox and goat meat. A platform was erected in an orchard in the center of town with Got. West as speaker. Portland contributed ' some of her best entertainers. Races were held on Main street -and there were no automobiles to '' dodge. Basket lunches augmented 1st the barbacued meat were nread on tables under the trees and everyone made merry. Fire works and a dance were culmi nating events. Thla was repeated the next year. A' barbecue given last year was a1 perfect success as attested by the large audience. A Digger ana tetter one this year is the goal for which all are aiming. The Woman's club will have charge ot a stand and barbecued sandwicn m will be served free to add to th huVt lunches and in the evening there will be a display ot fireworks and a big dance. Macksburg.
