Surprise Weddings

Wait of Oak Grove, parents of the
bride. Rer. Grorer C. Birtchet
read the wedding service.
Mr. and Mrs. Eakln attended
8alem schools together and have
both made their homes In Salem
for the greater part of their lives.
Mrs. Eakln for the past three
years has made her home in Port
land. Mr. Eakln is a substantial
member of the staff of the First
National bank and ' has been a
prominent and popular "eligible"
In social circles.'
Mr. and Mrs. Ealn will make
their home at th Royal Court
apartment.
A second wedding of interest to
be announced Wednesday was
that of Miss Helen Pettyjohn,
daughter of Mrs. Winifred Petty-
John to Lewis Lamb, son of Mr
and Mrs. Louis A. Lamb of Chi
cago. 111. The marriage took
place In September in Los Ange
les, but the tact remained a se
cret until this week when Mr
and Mrs. Lamb announced their
marriage In Chicago.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Lamb at
tended Willamette university
where the romance began. Mra
Lamb graduated from Reed col
lege In 1930 getting her degree
in psychology. Later she took post
graduate work at th University
of Southern California and then
at the University of Oregon
While In Los Angeles this past
summer she was doing clinic work
in child psychology.
Mr. Lamb graduated "from the
University of Oregon school of ar
chitecture. While in Willamette
h was affiliated with Kappa
Gamma Rho fraternity. He Is a
nephew of Dr. Carl Gregg Doney,
president of Willamette univer
sity. .
At the present time Mr. and
Mrs. Lamb are making their home
in Chicago.

International House to
Receive Visitors
An event which will attract the
attention of a large number of
Salem people will be the "open
house to townspeople and uni
versity people which the "Inter
national house" of Willamette uni
versity will sponsor Friday after
noon between the hours of 3 and
5 o'clock.
Each college is developing its
own " international house" ana
the result is proving an interest
ing one. University students find
the contact with the foreign stu
dents a splendid addition to their
university life and that foreign
students find this contact valu
able is shown by the Increasing
numbers which come each year to
attend schools here. Miss Jose
phine Albert has the rare oppor
tunity of making her home in the
"International house" of Colum
bia university while attending
school there.
Willamette university "inter
national house" at 690 South
Winter street. Is in Its' Infancy
but It has much of Interest for
visitors Friday.

Hold Important

One of the outstanding meet
ings of the year will be held by
the Salem Women's club this af
ternoon at the club boast on
North Cottage street. --, .
It will be the last meeting of the
year for the club and final busi
ness will be presented. At this
time Mrs. J. M. Devers, retiring
president of the club, and who
through illness has been unable
to attend many sessions this
spring, will be present to give her
recommendations and farewell
address to the club at S o'clock.
She will also Install the incom
ing president, Mrs. Hannah Mar
tin.
An executive board meeting is
called for 1 o'clock and at 2
o clock the regular business meet
ing will be held. Important re
ports will be given by the various
committee and department heads
as well as from those attending
the recent state convention of
the club federation In Portland.
Mrs. Martin will also announce
the year book committee which is
headed by Mrs. W. I. Staley and
assisting her will be Mrs. W. E,
Feldman, Mrs. T. C. Wood, Miss
Eula McCully, Mrs. Clifton Mudd,
Mrs. David Wright, Mrs. J. A.
Bronson, and Mrs. William For-
dyce Fargo.
Art Exhibit at Studio
Is Intriguing
Today one of the most Inter
esting exhibits to be shown in
Salem for many months will be
open to the public at the Gilbert
Art and Craft stulio beginning at
2:30 o clock when works of art
from the art department of the
University of Oregon will go on
display. Maurice Hudkins Is in
charge of the exhibit.
Most of the exhibit is sculptur
ing done in Oregon sandstone and
worked out by senior students of
the university and also a few

l&tt, head of the department and
Victoria Avaklan and Nellie Best,
instructors.
Those exhibiting Include in ad
dition to the above, Louise Breu
er, Don Byers, Pauline Conradt,
Edna Dunbar, Fannie Evans,
Fred HllVman, Edith Jackson,
Walter Pritchard, Margaret Rey
nolds, Velda Rose, Mary Vincent,
Margaret wetterstrom, and a
number of exhibitors of beautiful
and original pottery pieces.
This afternoon a group of pro
minent matrons will greet the
guests and Prof. Edward Tillson
will play a group of piano num
bers. Those who will receive in
clude Mrs. D. A. Young, Mrs.
Chester Cox, Mrs. Edward Till
son, Mrs. H. V. Collins, and Miss
Florence Cartwright.
Friday afternoon Robert Reed,
Pianist, will present a program
sometime during the receiving
hours of 2:30 and 5:30 o'clock.
