The beauties of the country gar- aen at tne jonesmere home is one well-known to the many who have visited there during the summers past. Mrs. E. M. Hoffnell is also hav ing open garden all week in order that the interested public may view the more than 200 named varieties of iris now in full bloom at the Hoffnell acres' south on the Pacific highway. Silverton Mrs. Charity Scott won the "500" prise with Mrs. Del Barber winning the low score prize, and Mrs. Glfford Smith, scoring high and Mrs. Frank Humms low, in bridge at the card party sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary this week. Mrs. Jean Cunningham and Mrs. Lillian De Ryke; luncheon committee, Billle Johnson, Mrs. Harry Wilson, Mrs. Del Barber and Miss Ina Harold. A charming surprise party was that which complimented Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lunsford Wednesday night at their East Lincoln homo. Mr. and Mrs. Lunsford will soon take up their residence at the Roy al Court apartments before. Mr. Lunsford leaves for a trip to Mon treal, Canada, which will be in the immediate future. The affair Wed nesday night was in the nature of a farewell for Mr. Lunsford. The last meeting of the season for members of the Variety club was held Thursday as the bridge luncheon at the Elks club. Miss Oma Belle Emmons, principal of the Independence training school,' and Miss Mary Donaldson, a critic teacher in the school, were re ceived Into the lodge by affiliation. Announcement was made of the Grand chapter O. E. S. to be held in Portland June 13-14-15. Refreshments were served in the dining room by a committee, members of which were Mrs. Ly man 'Damon, Mrs. Robert White, It. K. Montgomery and Philip M. Schwelzer. The Adah chapter team exem plified the initiatory work at the district meeting held in Dallas Thursday night. Rosedale The Ladies' Mission ary society met with Mrs. M. Cammack Wednesday afternoon. The time was spent in piecing quilts. Those present were Mrs. A. J. Haldy, Mrs. Edith Arht, Mrs. W. E. Way, Mrs. J. D. Alexander, Mrs. Brown, C Tucker, Mrs. F. Brown, Mrs. Norman Alexander, Mrs. E. Th bride's attendants, who were attractively gowned in pas tel shades were Miss Margaret Brown as bride's maid, th Misses Jean Forbes and Peggy Thomp son who scattered roses before the bride and little Elizabeth Ol son who carried the ring in th neart or a rose. Dr. G. G. Forbes acted as best man. After th wedding breakfast. Mr. and Mrs. Emmel took an air plane trip to Th Dalles and later motored to the Cascadla hotel in Cascadia for a few days. They will be at home at the Oregon state tu berculosle hospital after June 1. Mr. Emmel is a graduate of Oregon State college where he ma jored in Landscape Architecture. Father, Sons Homestead At Silverton VICTOR POINT. May IS Res idents of this section are consid erably surprised to find that homestead land has been avail able right under their nose, so to speak. They discovered this - recently when E. R. .Andrews and two sons, age 10 and 14 years, came here from Portland to settle on their 17 -acre homestead near Drift Creek canyon, nine miles from Silverton. Mr. Andrews is an ex-soldier. He says seven acres of the home stead may be plowed immediately, as this part does not need to be cleared. IIS. May 20 The members of the seventh and eighth grades in Woodburn schools held a picnic Wednesday at Champoeg park. There was boating and playing of games. A picnic lunch was served.
