PAGE THREE Oregon Statesman Baby Section Event Launched By Noted Woman MM- Aida de Acosta Brecken ridge of the American Child Health association was primarily responsible for the establishing nine years ago of May day as a time for special consideration for the needs of children. A,t present the governors of many states as well as President Hodver have issued proclamations designating May 1 as a day- for taking -inventory of programs for promoting .jchild health and pro tection,' and for conserving the na tion's greatest possessions, Its children. Twenty-three states now have Child He&Jth Councils working the year round in behalf of children. All states have May Day Chair men, usually the Chiefs of the di visions of Child Hygiene, wIiq or ganize state and local committees to plan community programs. The special observance of May Day it self has become an occasion for re porting tlTe results of the past year's. efforts In behalf of children and "for inaugurating new steps which may be of particular value to the well-bejng of the children in tW community. Th' en$ral purpose of May Day' this year." she adds, "is to focua-the' spirit of sharing and of j responsibility toward one's neigh bors, on such ppints as the need of every child to be sheltered in his own home and share secure family life; to have the essential food elements In each day's diet; to have an adequate amount of clean and safe milk; to have plenty of sunshine, sleep, rest and recreation; and the need of every infant to be born healthy, of a healthy mother, who will live to love her child and take care of her family. It is also the aim of May Day committees to put into practice in every community the nineteen points of the Children's Charter the Magna Carta of childhood." Meeting Slated By Local Group A meeting of the committees of the Marion County Tublle Health association will be held in the house chamber immediately after the afternoon meeting 6fthe con ference on Tuesday( which will be about 3:30. Committees of tho association have been enlarged to Include about 200 people over Marlon county. This meeting will be the first ono when the whole group could assemble. Nominating commit tees for officers to be elected at the June general meeting of the association will be named. Other business will also be taken up.
