way department yesterday reveal
ed that the widening of the Pacif
ic highway from Salem north
about 11 miles was not on the
prospectus. The opening of bids
on this 3150,000 Job will bo let
at the May 1 meeting of the eom-
mission so that work would he
under way by June 1
The highway Improvement
list however Indicates that per
haps three-quarters of a million
dollars of work would be award
ed. More than 115 miles ot
highways In the state wilt be
Improved, while work will also
be done on six bridges and ferry
service ta one Instance be pro
vided. The work will affect one
third of the counties In the
state.
Other nrolects to be let. In
which Salem Is Interested, Include
the two-mile cutoff between Can
by and New Era on the Pacific
highway, and the Improvement or
about' 30 miles on the Salmon
River highway and the McMinn-
vnie-Tillmook highway. It looks
like a busy session for the com
missioners next April 23.
The new Oregon road maps
for 1032 have been issued by
the state highway department,
and they are available at the
offices In Salem. la addition to
showing the latest data on
roads, the map contains other

mileage between points, traffic
regulations and national high
way routes. They are handy for
tourists.
