Stutt. violinist, and Miss Helen
Stutt, pianist Miss Eva Cochran
played the processional and re
cessional. Wee Betty Merle Rhoten In a
bouffant pink frock, was flower
- girl and small Webster Roes, Jr.,
was the sedate little rlngbearer.
The bride was unattended. She
wore an Informal .gown of two
toned brown silk and carried tea
roses and lilles-of-the-valley. -
A reception followed the wed-
' ding service. The serving table
was a pretty study in yellow.

'An attractive Washington's
birthday party was observed at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Karl
V. Pease on North 14 th street
Friday night. Bridge was In play
for aeveral hours with the win
ning scores being held by Mrs.
J. A. Jelderks, and Carl Popel.
Guest rooms were attractively
arranged with a decorative color
scheme suggesting the patriotic
Idea and this was carried out ef
fectively in the menu.

Conference Plans
Make Headway
The Northwest Regional Spring
conference for Girl Reserves will
open In Salem Friday and it is
expected that between 150 and
200 girls will be in attendance.
Tire meetings will be held In
the First Presbyterian church
and will last during Saturday
and Sunday, opening sFrlday
evening for registration. It is be
ing asked by local, Y. W. C. A.
authorities that any or all homes
which can provide a room and
breakfast for one or more ,of
these giTls will please get In
touch with the local Y. W. C. A.
organization. The rooms will be
needed for two or three nights
and two breakfasts will have to
be provided.
The high .school Reserves will
meet this Wednesday at the Y.
W. C. A. to work on handwork
for conference supplies.

THE only open meeting :of the
Daughters of the American
Revolution to be held during
the year. Is- the annual colonial tea,
which this year will be held at
the home of Mrs, C. A. Sprague,
between the hours of 2:30 and
5: SO o'clock Monday afternoon. -
It Is a custom of the organiza
tion to hold its "scholarship loan"
tea as a colonial benefit affair and
to this each year the people of
Salem are invited. The funds' de
rived from this tea are , turned
over to the scholarship loan fund
and will aid girls In college who
in many cases this year are un
able to go- on with their1 work
unless they are. able to get assist

sing a group of songs written dur
ing Washington's lifetime, which
include "Beneath a Weeping Wil
low's Shade." "The Lullaby." and
"The Bud of the Rose," and she
will also sing the song which has
been chosen as an anthem of the
bicentennial celebration of Wash
ington's birth, "The Father of the
Land We Love." This was writ-
ten by George M. Cohan especial-
ly for the bicentennial celebration,

Roses" (Relchhardt). and five-
minute talks, "Mary Ball in Early

Mr. and Mrs. Beecroft were
married in 1SS2 la Lincolnshire,
England, and. in 1884 came to the
United States. In 1511 they came
to Salem where they have since,
made their home.
Many friends called during (he
open house hours and gifts and
telegrams made additional joy for
them. The day also observed the
9th birthday of Mrs. Beecron
and Mrs A. J. Smith, Jr. celebrat
ed her 5th wedding anniversary
on the same day.

Covers for about 80 gnests were
placed at the banquet table, which
made a beautiful effect with its
many pink roses, pink tapers in
pink holders, pink rose favors and
menu cards in the shape of large
pink roses.
Toasts -were, built about the
theme of .the development of a
flower. Miss Harriet Sanders.
