IZZ2 Martha Washington Tea Woodburn Event , Woodburn An outstanding vent, of 'the jear, both tor the Woodburn Woman's club and the . community, will be held Monday - afternoon, February 22, when the - annual Martha Washington tea - trill take Place. The tea will be- In ' the public library and serving will be from 2 to 5. A special display of antique pieces of revolutionary and post revolutionary days will be a fea ture of the tea. Some of the ar ticles to be displayed are a spin ning wheel (which Mrs. Himar Overton will demonstrate) a hand woven blanket which was brought to America in the seven- . teenth century; a "double Irish chain" auilt; a tea Jar brought ' across the plains In 1848, and sev - eral pieces of needlework, all of which give a clearer conception of - that period or American history. A program has also been ar ranged. Those In charge are Mrs. V. D. Bain, Mrs. John Muir and Miss Mary Scollard. The program Is: vocal solo, by Miss Helen Knight of Hubbard, accompanied by Miss Margaret Becker: a tap dance, by Corlnne Gill, accompan panted by Miss Jean Beck; a play, "The Reunion of Washington's ner gro Servants," by fifth grade stu dents; a piano solo by fire-year old Donna Dean; a double quar tet of mixed voices, a high school presentation; two vocal solos, by Mrs. Paul Pemberton, accompan - led by Miss Joyce Woodfin; songs by the Rural club trio, the mem bers of which are Mrs. Lemer Mattson. Mrs. Charles Crooks, . Mrs. 3.- Pelmulder and Mrs. Alex E. Pollard, with Mrs. A. E. Hud son accompanying at the piano. The high school will present sev .era! other numbers not listed on the program. Rob inson home Monday afternoon. The program included the fol lowing numbers: "The Piano as a Musical Instrument" Mrs. w. H. Cockle; "Schumann" Mrs. H. W. Hagmeir; "Medelesohn" Miss Mabel Riddell; "Chopin" Mrs. A. B. Robinson; "Berloiz" Mrs. L. I. Bursell; "Lists" Mrs C. O. Sloper; "Indian Lore and Music" Mrs. M. J. Mr. William Stoddard entertained for members of the Sweet Briar club at her tome on Wallace road Wednesday afternoon. As special part of the program Mist Margaret Gillis, from the state tuberculosis associ ation, spoke to the group en the work which has been done in Polk county for .the past tew months. Mrs. Stoddard was assisted at the tea hour by her sister. Mrs. Don C. Smith, and Mrs. Charles Glaze. " Mrs. Wendt will be hostess to the group at her Wallace road home in two weeks. About -18 members were present for the Wednesday afternoon meeting. . "Woodburn Mrs. Sam Laws rave a lengthy but interesting re view of the Woodburn Foreign Missionary Society's yearly book dealing with foreign lands at the regular monthly social meeting oi the Federated Women of the Woodburn Methodist Episcopal church. The meeting was held at the home or Mrs. C. Jr. wnuman. Mrs. E. N. Hall, president ot the foreign Missionary Bociety, pre- Each year the members of the Foreign Missionary society are re quired to read certain speciric books telling about typical lives and conditions In foreign lands.
