Families will gather, youth from college will come trooping "home", social life will move with rapid step and "Thanksgiving" will be the keynote of thinking, and enter taining. Among the large family parties to come Thanksgiving day will be that at the Wallace Carson home. Guests will be Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Bragg of Portland, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McCammon of Portland, Mr. and Mrs. D. J. McClel lan, Mrs. John Carson and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Carson. Mr. and Mrs. William J. Stacy will spend Thanksgiving day in Portland with Mr. and Mrs. W. M. DeLin, parents of Mrs. Stacy. ' -The Chambers families will gather at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Chambers. Present will be Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pope, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W. Chambers, Miss Rachel Chambers of Portland. Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Chambers, Carl I Pope; Jr., Virginia Pope, and bers, and Philip Chambers. Mrs. Rex Adolph and daughter Joanne will leave this weekend for San Francisco where they will spend Thanks giving day. They will return in about two weeks. Dances, informal dinner parties and many, many more family parties will mark "Thanksgiving" day, so long ago celebrated as a harvest thanksgiving. Luncheon is Colorful I' Affair ONE of the outstanding sooial affairs of the year for the American Association of University Women is the lunch too for which Mrs. Claudius Thay er Is hostess each fall at her home ct Willamette Lodge. The luncheon for this fall was n colorful affair of Saturday. The nest rooms were beautifully ar ranged with flowers, many of them rather unusual blossoms. The service table, at which Mrs. Lyman Steed presided, was cen tered with a very lovely begonia with deep salmon pink blossoms. Preceding the luncheon a re ception was held for new mem bers. The line included Mrs. J.- A. Jelderks, president of the group, and Mrs. Herbert Rahe, Miss Le ila, Johnson, and Miss Laura Hale, and the new members which in clude, Mrs. G. C. Bellinger. Miss Helen Baird. Mrs. Earl Cooley. Mrs. Henry DeBoest, Mrs. J. J. Moritz. Miss Eleanor Tonsing, Mrs. L. J. Zillman, Mrs. Lestle Sparks; Mrs. Kenneth Fitzgerald, Mrs. H. C. FInley. Mrs. J. A. Mills, Mrs. Flora Waltz, Miss Al ene Philips, Miss Margaret Hogg, Mrs. R. A. Meyer and Mrs. W. E. Feldman. Miss Mabel Robertson assisted Mrs. Thayer as hostess. Assisting in serving were Mis Mary Eyre, Mrs. E. E. Lindsay, Mrs. R. D. Doege, Miss Irene Breithaupt, Miss Beryl Holt and Mrs. Roy Lockenour. Assisting about the rooms were Mrs. Harry Keeney. Mrs. George Allan, Mrs. Elbert Deiry, Mrs. E. B. Dougherty and Miss Dorothea Steusloff. - A unique program was given which included talks by Mrs. George Alden on Japan; Miss Lois Latimer, Korea; and Miss Lelia Johnson on Manchuria. Each speaker had visited the country spoken about during the past summer. Miss Frances Virginia Melton played a delightful group of numbers and Miss Helen Lou ise Crosby read an original poem written by Claudius Thayer and nUtled "The Pine Tree's Last Prayer". Members of the association present for this delightful affair were Mrs. A N. Bush. The large ballroom was appropriately and beautifully decorated with "rainbows." A large one spread over the orchestra in the center of the room and smaller ones were arranged in other effective spots. Rainbow - colored lights played over the room and a lighted "Rainbow" symbol added an at tractive note to the total effect. Miss Jean Eastridge had general charge of the plans for the dance; Miss Peggy Wagstaff had charge of the decorntions and Miss Jo sephine McGilchrist had charge of the refreshments. A thrilling incident was the arrival of Robert Hofer, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Hofer, who flew over the home several times in his airplane before drop ping a package of gifts to his grandparents in compliment to the day. Tuesday night the Tllllcum club will danee at casiuiian nan. An attractive Thanksgiving inter ior Is being given the Masonic temple ballroom for Wednesday night at which time tne suDscnp tlon elub will danco the hours away. A large number of guests are being asked for this dance and several large dinner parties will ' be given preceding the dance. Among the hosts for this night ' will be Mr. and Mrs. Frank Spears and Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Roberts who will entertain together; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chapman, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Wilson and Dr. and Mrs. Jerakl Backstrand will entertain members of their bridge club with an informal bouffet sup per; and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cornoyer will also -be hosts before the dance. A second dance for Wednesday night will be a large benefit dance to be sponsored by the Auxiliary to the American Legion at Mel low Moon. Mrs. Henry Fournier and Mrs. Seymour Davis are in charge of the affair. The affair is being given for the welfare work of the organization. Thursday night the annual "Thanksgiving dance", a feature of great moment in the lives of the college set home for Thanks giving holidays. It has been an event for which Mrs. Julia White has been hostess for a number of years and it marks a reunion time for a very large group of the younger crowd of Salem. Miss Cynthia Delano is general chairman in charge of arrange ments and she is being assisted by Ruth Gillette and Mary Jane Lau. Patrons and patronesses for the affair are Mr. and Mrs. Hal Patton, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Gil lette, Mr. and Mrs. Frank G. My ers. Mrs. Rose Wilkes and Mrs. F. Ethel Lau. Friday night a large group of high school people will dance at Illihee club house with a group of high school maids as hostesses. Saturday night the Illihee coun try club will give its Thanksgiving dance at the clubhouse. The in terior of the charming rustic club house will be decorated with sym bols of the Thanksgiving time and refreshments will carry out the same idea. The affair is also in compli ment to Frank E. Sharer. He will be presented with the champion ship cup given by the club, the winner of the intra-club tourna ment. The affair is of more than usual interest in that the marri age of Miss Mary Kafoury and Mr. Shafer will be an event of the next day, November 29, at St. Paul's Episcopal. Mrs. A. C. Eoff will be a host ess Monday entertaining members of her club with an afternoon of bridge.
