Advance ot a cent In the price of underscore cube butter on the produce exchange tor the late ses sion was the direct result ot the Impending shortage ot storage stock. It is the undergrade offer ings that compete with storage Doner, inereior shortage in the later, causes strength In the for mer. There was no change In the price of either of the two top cores; extras remaining Sic and standard 8 Oe lb. The fact that prise Orst advanced to the same price as standard Indicates rather loose price making on the top grades. Strength In the eastern and told west batter markets Is a factor of Importance to the coast trade at this time Inasmuch as It diverts some ot the Intermeantaia surplus Into Its regular eastern channels. Batterfat value In general are unchanged. There continues a firm tone In the general egg market situation for the day. Late strength In the eastern and midwest sectors has given ttie entire coast trade a stronger tone. Prices are main tained the Pacific co-ops. Alfalfa markets generally rang ed f rem steady to slightly stronger during the last week, with moder ate to light offerings In fairly good demand, according to the weekly alfalfa market review of the U. S. bureau ot agricultural economics. Harvesting of corn and grain sorghums In the central west and a holding tendency on the part of the California producers, generally held marketings to a comparatively small, volume. The first general rains since last May were received during the week in the latter areas and sustained de mand somewhat toward the close of the weekV Pastures, however. have not had time to recover and much supplementary feeding is still necessary. Pacific northwestern alfalfa quotations held about steady, with sales generally near the top ot quoted ranges. The rabbit trade and local retailers were In the Portland market for top grades. while local dairymen offered the principal outlet for straight No. 1 hay. The . movement increased somewhat from the Yakima valley. with the better quality selling at around $8. SO a ton f. o. b. ship ping points in that area. The Kansas City market was comparatively quiet, with the lightest arrivals since before the beginning of the movement ot the fourth cutting. Fair amounts of local alfalfa were sold to local feeders in the Great Bend, Kansas territory at around 110 a ton at producers' fanners. Offerings at Omaha were also light and in fair demand at steady prices. Hay of a deep green color was Ln particularly good reqneet. but the lower grades were dlffl cult to more. Shipments from the Plstte Valley of -Nebraska were somewhat smaller than tor the previous week, due largely to scattered light rains over that area. The fourth cutting sold from the 6tack at 1 7. 5 0-9. 00 per ton. depending on quality. The Colorado movement contln net light. The Fort ".Worth ant Houiton markets rtmtlnei 9tev dy, with light , offering im w i Los Angeles prices . ware ad- raneed from ISO per ton during H the week, largely because of ths continued nrm noiaing tenaen- cy en the part of Antelope and u Imperial Valley growers. Demand v which continued to come largely from local dairymen, was quite sc- t tire early In the week, but fell off ; considerably later ln the period when heavy rains were general over practically all ot soutnem : California.
