Oct. 26 (AP) There was practically bo change in the general trend of the batter market situation tor the week's initial session. Occasional slight Showing of weakness Is reflected .bat not sufficient to cause any stir. There was no change at all la the market for eggs for the week's opening, -prices were held intact by the local co-ops and while there has been' much talk Of higher prices by outsiders and priTate firms, no- confirmation Is available. . In fact buying prices were reduced a couple of cents for the weekend. " r While there was no general price change In cheese In the west ' during the last few days, and es pecially so at Tillamook, reports In the trade Indicate here and there a fractional price loss. In general there is a rery good demand ruling In the market for lire chickens. Practically all lines ahow the improved call and some late betterment in the price. ; In the market for dressed tur keys, there is still a' rather good tail for birds weighing 14 lbs. and more but few of there are arriv ing. Smaller stuff appears more or less neglected at prices ranging 25c up. Vv- vf:-" . There is a weaker tone general ly in the market tor country kill ed hogs as a result of additional price declines for livestock at north Portland. Veal and lambs are unchanged. - TRADING ACTIVE "PORTLAND,, Oct. 2 (AP) Trading was a trifle more active In spots during today's session of the East Side Farmers wholesale mar ket. There was, however, little Change In the price list. A .few boxes . of selected qual ity and sivd tomatoes sold up to 80c but the general top was 60 0c with most of the stock of small jslse and just fair quality. Potatoes were weak with 0-65c the extreme top for local stock in orange boxes and 50c taking the bulb. Yakima No. ' 1 stock was dull at not above $1 sack. Apple market continued its pre vious dullness with most locals at 25-iOc but a few as high as, 50c box. Yakima face and fill Spits were offered at 60c and Delicious wrapped and packed at $1 with n extremely limited call. . Yakima . Spanish type onions were offered at li75 and the same price was asked for locals. Lettuce sold principally 75 crate with a few at 1. Cabbage market was a trifle breaker at 80-8Sc crate. Spinach held unchanged at 50 JaOc orange box. Green broccoli sold 20-25c lug. Cauliflower sold 3 0-3 5c for No. 1 B and the former for2s.- Last of the peaches were offer ed at 45 5-7 5c box. " Corn sold again up to $1 sack. Bell peppers were In fair call at 0c orange box. Limited offerings of beans found a, fair call at a nickle. Pumpkins and squash were held generally around a cent. Some Hood River face and fill An Jou pears were sold 85c box. DIKE iMiM : SOHIiHTIES BEING. U JEFFERSON, Oct. 26 E. M, Jfash of the state highway depart ment and his crew of ten men r have begun the work of replacing (he dike along the west bank of (he Santiam river on the Clause Thelsen farm near Jefferson. The dike washed away by the flood of last spring. Several years ago, this dike was oullt by the Southern Pacific com pany and the state highway de partment to prevent the river from cutting a new channel .through the Thelssen farm south west of town, and also to protect the small bridges on the highway They expect to use about 1000 wards of concrete material In re i jbulldins the dike. , .1 'Airmail Service To be Extended The special 1 p. m. airmail ser Tice here will be expanded on No vember 1 to a dally except Sunday delivery. Oct ft (AP) Securities and commodities react ed in dull markets today. Stocks, lacking any incentive to do otherwise, declined slowly. Bonds : averaged lower, although the list was somewhat . spotty. Wheat, corn and cotton gave up part of last weekjs gains and rub ber futures made new lows. . Two or three attempts wera mads at a rally, but . none got be yond the fractional ' stage and trading only became duller on these moves. Rail, utility and chemical groups . displayed 'con siderable heaviness. The general industry' division found buyers In a very cautious frame of mind. ' At the close, U. S. steel was off nearly 3 points. Case, American Telephone, New York Central, Union Pacific, Atchison, Western Union and Allied Chemical closed with roughly the same loss. Amer ican Can. Weetlnghouse. Anacon da, Consolidated Gas. North Am erican, Southern Pacific and Beth lehem were down . about 1 4 to slightly more than X. General Electric, Union Carbide.
