Builds Best Model Coach in
Fisher Contest; Gets
Trip to Detroit
Honors are not unusual to
Faul Franklin, -winner of .the sen-
. lor state championship in the
I Fisher body contest for the. best
miniature Napoleonic towl. Paul
has won many prizes, including: a
large sliver loving cup, for mod
el airplanes which ho has built.
However he admits that the
coach which has brought .him
f am was by far the moat difficult
problem he has ever attempted. .
As a reward f or hi . efforts
Faul will be sent to Detroit as a
guest of the Fisher , Body com
pany and will receive ' an. addi
tional prize of 50 In gold- With
all this his coach will be entered
In the national competition, the
winner of which will receive a
- loar year university scholarship.
Paul takes his honors modest-
ly and when questioned as to how
it felt to be famous his dark eyes
twinkled as he answered. "I don't
know that I -am. yet.". Those dark
eyes were obviously on . far . hor
izons and Paul Is ready to take
advantage -of any opportunity
that may be offered to perfect
his talent and to study. That he
will meet new opportunities with
the time painstaking- effort " that
maae uis most recent vcu
possible
us evident.
What was the most difficult
part of the work?" he- was akxi

Ills Best Always
. "The painting" was the prompt
reply, He went on to explain that
a particular type of lacquer was
used which was supposed to be
put on by spray.- Lacking this
equipment be used a brush, and
spent many weary hours In ac
complishing the task. : I.
His .mother accidentally reveal
ed a bit ot his story when she
said: "Paul Is never satisfied
lth anvthlnv- rnt his ,err best
work. He had so much difficulty
In putting the upholstery on his
coach aa It was such a tedious
task. After the work was com
pleted he found that the wrong
kind of material had been used.
Nothing would do but he would
take It all out and put In the
new. '."We tried to persuade him
not to, -but he said It would not
be right".
It is this careful attention to
detail which ha made Paul's air
planes, winners In .almost every
contest that he has entered. f
Just always try to do my rery best
work" said Paul.
Kncooraged In -
Crafts Interest ,"
To an outsider Paul who is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Frank
lin, is fortunate in many ways
but most of all Is he to be con
gratulated upon the parents he
has. He was but a small boy when
they -discovered that he showed
real talent for craft work. He was
furnished with simple tools and
encouraged to develop his skill.
When he was 14 years old his
father supplied the lumber and
Paul built a work shop at home.
The shop -is still In use and Is a
credit to any carpenter. When
the shop was completed he was
given more tools - and supplied
with wood and other materials
seeded for his work.
"It is the cheapest way to raise
i boy, said Mr. Franklin You
tee he has always had something
jo do at home that he was inter
tsted in and for-that reason we
j ever had to worry about where
he was-or -what he was doing.
We have been saved a lot of wor
ry and anxiety. Paul has always
attended strictly to business and
has given us no trouble." .
During the past year Paul at
tended Capital Business college.
He Is uncertain as to what he will
do during the coming year but
he hopes to go farther In craft
work. 1 1

Issuance of a formal order by
Judge O. F. Skip worth In the
Rhea Luper case, set for today,
has been postponed until next
week because of the Judge's In
ability to complete the June term
of circuit court In Lane county In
time to be here. Luper Is under
grand Jury Indictment for diver
sion of state funds when he was
state engineer. "Judge Skipworth
has already given an. opinion that
' the indictment ot Luper is invalid
due to . the fact that the grand
Jury, appointed by' Circuit Judge
McMahan, had completed Its legal
term and thus was without auth
ority to indict Luper. -
Skipworth has asked" the dis
trict attorney here and Oscar
Hay ter, attorney xfor Luper, as
well as the defendant .himself, to
be in court next week. What ac
tion the Judge will take Is not
known but It is surmised he will
remand the case to a newly
drawn grand jury for further In
vestigation. Luper Is free on bail.
Meanwhile Circuit Judge Mc
Mahan has Ignored the ruling of
Judge Skipworth and told the old
grand Jury to continue its Investi
gations. " - ,

IN THE earlier days of this country, spending tne family

There were snags and shoals aplenty. Inferior goods and
unscrupulous merchandising methods made the channel
dangerous ''Let the buyer beware" was an accepted
slogan of trade. j, . ;
Fortunately for millions of consumers this condition Has
wholly changed in more recent years. The channel has
been charted. Today advertised, trade-marked goods of
known value are for sale in every city and hamlet. The
buyer knows he can trust such products. He reads the
advertisements hi his paper, chooses the commodities he
needs, and makes his purchases with the knowledge that
he will get full value for his outlay.
The advertising columns of this newspaper point the
way to satisfaction. If (you make it a habit to read them
daily you will save money, and save time.
