The board overruled a motion by the Internal revenue bureau to dismiss the application ot the Los Angeles evangelist for a re determination of her . 1927 and 1928 taxes. . The bureau contended the ap plication was void because It bad not been signed by Mra. McPher son. Lie wily n A. Luce of "Wash ington, . one of the -evangelist's attorneys, explained she had not signed it because she was in Eu rope when it was presented. He filed an amended petition bear ing her signaturev The --Internal revenue, bureau assessed the additional tax on the ground she should have re ported income of 119,236 for 1927 Instead of $9,712 and $107,395 for 1928 instead of 18,tf$8. The evangelist replied that she had reported all her In come which was taxable. In her petition she said the 29,524 added by the government to her 1927 Income was a gift from the congregation of Ange lus temple and not taxable. I've been around right smart and seen a considerable number of stores and ' I don't recollect seein' on nicer'n the Market. Most stores like this one, the folks that runs 'em seem to think cause they got a nice place they gotta get high prices for stuff. Is that rfb? we says. AVell, well, if our guess is right the folks around here know about as much about this store as we store advertisin' but it s a TTCnesr (SaDcmi, IFlfoGy See, And when they receivea big box full of goods and two big handfuls of small change; (not too strong on-the small, or you'll spoil the works) they just stand and stare with; their mouths wide open (good grief no. not their mouths open, we shoulda said eyes open), anyway whichever cent array of superlative and decent opinion. Now, that started to say. Superlative would come to us the minute fidence, that s the most powerful word in the whole chain about money is one of our long suits (the suit we wear in public, of course). Confiden tial about the customers' money is what we mean, because they can't afford to get confidential about their money. Fact isf most of it has long since gone to Wall Street. Of course you all know where Wall Street is in case you don't we'll tell you, it's a little street over in New York. It's a one-way street, that is to say, your money goes in and doesn't come out. Now that may not be an exact copy of the ads we've seen adver tisin' chain stores, but as we remember it it's what was between the lines, and just so you'll know whose ad this is, and best in the world.
