Meeting Here May 25 to be
First Outside Portland
In Nineteen Years , j-
Tha Knights ot Columbus will
bold their 23 rd annual state con
vention in Salem on Monday, Mar
25. This is ' the first state con
vention of the Knights of Colum
bus to be held outside ot Port
land since 1912,; when the con
vention was held In Eugene. Del
egates will be present from 23
councils of the state of Oregon.
SUt and district officers ' will
arrive In Salens on Sunday, May
2 to prepare for the meeting.
The conference will open Sun
day at 1 o'clock at McCornack
hall. rer Miller's store, where
Initiation ceremonies will be con
ducted by the degree team ot Mr.
Angel council. A sight-seeing
tour for Tisiting women has been
arranged to leaTe the Marion
hotel at 2 o'clock tomorrow after-

The convention banquet," which
between 300 and 400 will attend,
will be held Sunday evening at
the Marion, beginning at 7:30
o'clock. V. W. Tremaine of Wood

council, will be toastmaster. .

One of the five colleges which
Methodist women are seeking to
assist is Isabella Thoburn at
Lucknow,-. India. This school is
the outgrowth of a one-room day
school established in Lucknow in
1870 with four timid littlegirls
as pupils. The founder was Miss
Isabella Thoburn, sister of the
late Bishop Thoburn, well known
to many Oregonians. t i

Julia Overlund died at her home
here Thursday afternoon at : 5
o'clock. Mrs. Overlund had ' been
111 for a number of: months and
hope for her recovery had been
given up some time-ago. Funeral
ararngements are not completed
but will likely ; be held from Im
manuel church in Silverton. Jack
and Ekman are In charge. '.
Mrs. Overlund is survived ' by
her widower. Ole Overlund; seven
daughters. Christine, Ruth Hilda,
Mable, Ida, Sylvia and Hannah,
and two sons. Harold and John.
She also -leaves one brother in
i Wisconsin and a sister in Norway.
She was 63 years old at the time
of her death. :
