Cali fornia, representing the Califor nia cherry growers' association, vras In Salem on Monday la con ference with Max Gehlhar In re gard to the cherry tariff situa tion. It was decided to make an ef fort to postpone any further con sideration or the cnerry tariir un til after July lt 19 12. The tariff commission had announced that a Tear's trial ot the present tariff would be made but growers de clare that in order to be a"real trial the present rate must hold until after July 1, 1932. Mr. Smith reported that the prune crop In California is very uncertain at present. -Previous reports of a heavy blossom set led people to, believe that, pros pects were for a very heaTy crop bnt according to Mr. Smith the prunes are not developing as they should and conditions are uncer tain. - . : Mr. Gehlhar reported that Ore gon has had fair crops under much worse- conditions than now exist although it is a little early to estimate the Orerpn prune erop. The secretary, Ellis Stevens, gave a splendid report announcing that we had 12S members at present membershra and four new applica tions for membership were to be read at this meeting. These four new members are Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Korre. Mildred Kurre and Edwin Shubert. The degree team captain, R. II. Drake, asked all members of the first and second degree teams to be present Monday evening at the grange hall. Oleo Diacuaaed ) A very Interesting discussion of oleo took place during the report of the agricultural committee and several communications on tax reduction read and discussed. North Howell grange went on record as advocating a change in the Pomona grange meeting from June to July. This would make the Pomona meeting a regular Quarterly meeting and It would not conflict with state grange dates, i - 7 l it would also enable many members to attend who are too busy with fruit harvest in June to do so. Program Enjoyed During the lecture hour a song by Lucille Waltman, Lois Coom ler and Ellen Vinton was much enjoyed and encored. Mrs. Mattle Vinton gave a reading by Edgar Guest.
