resulting from the recent heavy
rains, is reported -to have caused

An unexpected collapse of the
corn market pulled down the entire-
grain list today, but last min
ute rallies jerked prices up. Ex
tensive stop loss selling-of corn
caught the pit temporarily bare
of buyers.; and all deliveries out
did the season's previous bottom
price record. Then; speculative
sellers executed a sudden reversal
of their market, position. : and a
general rebound ensued.
Corn ; closed nervous 1-8-3-4
cents higher, wheat unchanged to
7-8 up, oats a shade to 7-8 ad

Home Economics club of the
Union Hill Grange held their
regular meeting with 12 mem
bers present. .
Mrs.- Daisy Bump, 'master of
North Howell grange was pres
ent nd gave a talk on "The
Farmer's Wife" that was much
enjoyed.
A delicious lunch was served
by Mrs. H. K. Hubbard, Mrs. W.
F. Krens and Mrs. Belle Heater.

will put on a program for us.

DIES SUDDENLY
PERRYDALE. April 10. Mrs.
Winifred Mekkers died Thursday
morning at the home of her son
Edward, who resides near Broad
mead. Mrs. Mekkers was 70 years
of age but had en J ored good
health until two days ago, when
she became ill.
She had been caring for Mrs.
Joha ZyUtra's housework while
Mrs. Zylatra waa with her daugh
ter in Whit Salmon. Wash.
The children left to mourn .the
loss of their mother are Mrs. John
Zylatra, Pete and John Mekkers,
who reside in this community;
Mrs. D. Mellema of Battle Ground,
Wash., and Nick and William, who
reside in Portland.

George Zellnski. father ; of Mrs.
Fred Haahlebacher, Sr., is very
ill at his home In Oregon City.
Mr, Zellnski lived here for 30
years, selling his farm to Edgar
Johnson.
