AURORA. Feb.. 20. Mrs. Edith
Carpenter has been a"sident of
this place since 1901. moving into
town after the death of her hus
band, from what is now the Frank
Lergen place near Donald.
Sunday, February 15, Mrs. Car
penter celebrated the anniversary
of her birth, together with that of
her brother, Judd Nicodemus of
Hillsboro, whose birthday falls
upon the same day, in the same
month, but not the same year, by
giving a lovely 1 o'clock dinner
to the members of the two famil
ies. Many gifts and cards of
greetings were received.

him at the close of the meeting.

in charge. Dancing was enjoyed

Woman's i Foreign missionary so
ciety of the Methodist church of
Jefferson; met at the lovely coun
try home' of Mrs. Earl Lynes, on
Wednesday afternoon.
A very interesting program
was lead by Mrs. Earl Phelps.
Readings ! were given by Mrs. R.
C. Thomas and Mrs. Earl Lynes.
and stories were read from the
text , hook, "The Cloud of Wit
nesses." A demonstration was
given by Mrs. George Mason.
The business meeting was con
ducted by Miss Addle Llbby. the
president; and the minutes of the
previous meeting were read by
Mrs. J. G. Fontaine, secretary. It
was decided to hold the next
meeting at Mrs. George Mason's
March 19. at which time - the
Founder's Day will be observed.
Dainty refreshments were serv
ed by the hostess, Mrs. Lynes,
assisted by Mrs. McKee. At this
hour the mystery box questions
were answered. This was con
ducted by Mrs. B. S. Thurston.
After refreshments the mid-year
mite boxes were opened.

WEST STAYTON, Feb. 20 A
special meeting of the West
Stayton Growers association was
held at Darley's office Wednes
day evening, February 18, for
the purpose of talking over lima
bean growing for seed purposes.
Two representatives from the
Lilly Seed company of Portland
were present and it was decided
not to plant lima's for seed. The
subject of commercial fertilizer
was discussed from' all angles.
The Lilly representatlTes invited
any and all to come and see just
how Lilly a fertilizers were
mucu. i
Mr. Darley's office was filled
to. overflowing and all present
were - greatly interested. As
planting j time grows nearer the
growers are anxious to get aline
up on what they, can best handle,
as the Kentucky bean growing
seems to be at a standstill.
