JrOOreAl-LBGZS,
WITH so-called East and
West engaging, Saturday,
la the annual Shrlners
game at San Fnndsco, football
for 1930 is not yet dead; Indeed,
on of its most colorful event
the Boa Bowl game will feature
Waabington State vs. Alabama at
Pasadena, CaL, on New Year's
Day. As the 1930 grid season Is
closing, the Sport Bug gives brief
yet special attention to some of its
most notable features. Everyone
knows of Notre Dame and its
Sockno and Carideo. They stand
out in bold relief, as do Ernie
Pinckert, Southern California
balfback, and Wes Fesler, Ohio

Millions Spent as Fond
Manias Prepare to Launch
Their Daugters' Careers
By HAZEL REAVI3
NEW YORK, Dee. 2 (AP)
The debutante season has reached
its peak with Christmas week and
parents who present their daugh
ters to society this season will
pay an aggregate debut bill which
will run into several million dol
lars. Ballrooms of fashionable ho
tels, spoken for months and even
years in advance, have been
ablase with lights from dinner
until dawn every night tor weeks.
The let-up will not com until
mid-January and a sprinkling of
debut parties will continue clear
through February.

industry In New York, for girls

- The manag-esT director at
Pierre's estimated today that 188)
girls wui have "com out" mere
during the season which began In
October and ends with February.
Their parties will average 33000
la cost which totals more than
half a million for the one hotel.
Charles Pierre placed the aver

Dr. S. S. WUlaman, wrote. 'It La
my opinion that Feeler is the out
standing player of the 1930 sea
son. Well, Fesler has strong claims
to the distinction accorded him by
his veteran coach. He played both
end and back with about equal
brilliancy and steadiness. Ho did
all the kicking and the signal call
ing, too. He was the prime factor
in about every play, Ohio State
made on both offense and defense.
And, of course, he was notably
expert in either making or catch
ing passes. If Tale's Albis Booth
was the most thoroughly watched
player of the year. Feeler was a
close second. Wes was almost as
wonderful last year and the pen
three Important debutante had
parties last week to which a
thousand guests were asked. Bar
bara Hutton, pretty granddaugh
tor of the late Frank Woolworth,
five and ten cent store founder,
had a Rltz-Carlton debut at which
the musle alone cost several
thousand dollars. Rudy Vallee's
orchestra played at her party and
La Argentina danced. A dinner
party foa.209 guests was followed
by a supper dance, and there was
a breakfast party at dawn for the
indefatigable. .
Host of iho girls for whom big
debuts are given are full time de
butantes and- their educations
have been completed. But male
guests for the parties are large
ly recruited from nearby colleges
which accounts . for , the tremen
dous rush of parties during the
holiday period.
The cost and sis of modern
coming out parties has taken
them out of amateur hands tor
the most part. Professional
counsel 1 available to the weal

thing except the debutante's dress
and her invitation list and ccn
oven lend a hand with that la a
pinch.

through the tangled Jungle ot
the Tharawaddy district today,
dragging machine guns along
with them in pursuit of embat

a government forest ranger and
killed at least four policemen In
the past two days.
Villages in the vicinity ot
Weya have been terrorised by the
rebels, whoee activities were at
tributed to discontent with the
burden of taxation in a year
during which the rice crop has
been pitifully slim.
The marauding bands, which
have apeared out of nowhere to
battle the skeleton police guards,
disappeared quickly again Into
an almost Impenetrable forest
and their pursuers have had the
greatest difficulty catching up
with them because of the diffi
culty of making any progress
through the Jungle and across
the rice swamps.
"The center of the disturbance
