Civic club members were hostesses to the Independence Civic dub women at the regular meeting Saturday afternoon from 2 till 4 o'clock. At the business session, announcement was made that the deed to a piece of prop erty recently purchased by the club was ready for presentation to the city. The first draft of tri ordinance, to be passed by the city council, designating contig uous terrains of the park as one body of land to be used for a city park , under direction1 of the Civic club of Monmouth, or its possible successors, was read and commented upon as the principal business measure of the day. The program featured an ad dress by Miss Elizabeth Lord, garden architect of Salem, who presented constructive plans on the artistic land practical location of trees, . shrubs, flowers, walks and pools for various types of set ting. Many charming illustra tions and plan outlines picturing well balanced arrangements, helped her- listeners to visualise the applicability of her designs. Miss Margaret Slusher, of the department of music of the Ore gon Normal school, pleased with two vocal numbers, with piano accompaniment by Mrs.rj.-S. Lan- aers. . A social tea followed the pro gram, at which Mrs. A. B. Mor lan and Mrs. E. C. Cole poured, assisted by Miss Ida Mae Smith and Mrs. Inez Miller. The Legion hall was charming ly decorated for the occasion with beautiful home grown chrysan themums in a harmonious range of colors, which were presented especially for the pleasure of the Vlvlc club by Mrs. George Wait of Rlckreall. A. Bear. They remained over for the evening's basket ball game, at the- Turner high gymnasium. Willett Jesse spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Jesse.
