Tells Fellowship Plans THB Salem branch of the American Association of Uni yerslty Women haa receired from the chairman of the Fellow ship committee of the state dlri sion the announcements .of the conditions gorernlng the award of the fellowship siren at three rear periods by the state dirlslon. Miss Laura Garn jobst of Salem held the first fellowship. She took her first decree at Oregon State college and completed her work lor doctors degree at Stanford university and Is now research as-i istant at the Unhrersity of Cali fornia. Applications and recommenda tion for this fellowship must he In not later than January 16. 1931. Miss Helen Pearce is the local representatlre' on the Fel lowship committee. Lee Home In the nature of a hoasewarm lns and in compliment to the of fice force of the insurance and state fire marshal departments. Mr. and Mrs. Clare A. Lee enter tained at their new home, "Ald rbrook," on the Pacific high way, Friday evening. The home was beautifully decorated in blooms of the season. Hubbard Matron is Hostess Hubbard Mrs. Julius Stauffer entertained at her home Wednes day evening at a 7 o'clock bridge dinner in compliment to the past presidents of the Hubbard Wo man's club and their husbands. Thanksgiving motifs were used for the table decorations and for the favors. Three tables of bridge were In play throughout the evening. High honors went to Mrs. Neva McKenxie and C. H. Clever, and second prizes were won by Mrs. Blanche Brown and L. A. Beck nan. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Waldo F. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Cleaver, Mr. and Mrs. George Crimps, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Hobson announces that the choir of the First Chrls tioa church, the members of the Madrigal club and the Civic Male chorus will present the "Mes siah" December 21. Practice is now going forward rapidly. The guest soloist will be Ever ett Craven. Portland, student of Prof. Hobson, who has just been chosen to sing the bass solos in the "Messiah" as it is being giv en under the direction of Von Hoogstraton, director of the Portland Symphony orchestra. Other soloists for the Salem presentation will be Miss Jose phine Albert. Miss Lillian Scott, Miss Aldeane Smith, Ronald Craven and Wendell Robinson. Mrs. N. C. Kafoury enter tained in compliment to the reg ular meeting of the Kensington club at her home Thursday aft ernoon. Fall flowers in charm ing arrangement added a festive note to the guest rooms. Several ladies from Sclo and Jefferson were among those present and earrled home high and second high prizes. Carroll was the scene of pleasant social gath ering Thursday when, members of the Pringle-Pleasant , Point Social club met for an aH day session with Mrs. McCarroll and Mrs. J. W. Keys acting as Joint hostesses. Luncheon was served at noon with covers placed for 33. The long dinner table ! was attractive with tall yellow tapers and a bowl of yellow chrysanthe mums. . 'The Polk county Federation 'ol Rural Women's clubs will have their fall meeting -at the L O. O. F. hall at Balston Thursday, No vember 20. The business meet ing begins promptly at 11 o'clock and this will be followed by the president's conference. . Officers are to be elected for the ensuing year. A potluck din ner will be served at 12:30 o'clock with the Balls ton women serving sandwiches, coffee and cream.
