Society Editor , Brilliant Party Honors Bride Elect A BEAUTIFUL party of the week was the surprise show er for Mls Irene - Breit haupt, bride elect of the very near future, with Mrs. Paul Allen, Miss Myrtle Smith, and Miss Loretta Varley as hostesses at the Alpha Phi Alpha sorority house on Oak street Saturday night. The guest rooms were brilliant ly arranged with flowers In au . tumn shades . combined with greenery. Here and there Hallo we'en tokens suggested the spir it of the weekend and contributed . additional dashes of color to the long liring room where a huge fire burned In the wide fireplace at one end of the room and to the attractive dining room where the gifts to the bride elect were arranged. Streamers of orange came down from the chandelier over the din ing room table to the many cor ners of an inverted orange um brella. Near the umbrella a pert bride dressed in orange and black stood guard over the many pack age heaped upon the table. Miss Brelthaupt was greeted at the door by Miss Loretta Varley and MUs Myrtle Smith each dress ed as ghosts, and escorted into the liring room. The double doors leading from the liring room Into the dining room, swung open and revealed the guests about the table and the table piled with packages. As Miss Breitbaupt began to open the packages Mrs. Leo Kafoury sang -I Lore You Truly." The evening was spent inform ally with music and conversation and at a late hour the hostesses served. A short business session was ob served after which the hostess, assisted by Helen King, served refreshments which were char acteristic of the Hallowe'en spirit. The first meeting of the Beet hoven society of Willamette uni versity was held at Willamette lodge Friday afternoon. A musical program was enjoyed and plans were made for the coming year. Miss Martha Burnham of Pasa dena Is a gueet of Miss Sally Bush. Miss Burnham Is a sister of the founder of the Burnham Prep aratory school of Northhapton, Massachusetts. Dean and Mrs. R. R. American War Mothers to Meet The regular business meeting of the American War Mothers, will be held Tuesday afternoon at the American Lutheran church and it la especially nrged that all mothers of sons who served over seas, be present for the meeting. Special speakers will be Mrs. Elizabeth Waters, chairman of Americanization committee, will speak on her work during the year and the plans of the com mittee for the coming year. Mrs. Mary Findley Lockenour will speak on "Christian American ization." Dancing Party is Jolly Evening Miss Eleanor Chadwick was hostess for a happy Hallowe'en dancing party at her home Friday evening. Gay Hallowe'en sym bols and orange and black tapers added the final touch of festivity to the evening. At the supper hour Miss Chadwick was assisted by Miss Peggy McCoy. Dr. Elizabeth Matthews, who has been spending the summer with her sister Miss Amanda Matthew3 of Shaw, has started east, where she will spend some time at Chicago, Boston and New York City, before returning to Europe.
