World Famous Russian Singers Coming to First Congregational Church for Concert October 27 Anytblns that , can stand the test of publie approval for over 75 rears, Is surely worth while, and that Is exactly what Princess Slaviansky's Royal- Russian choir, which comes here October 27 at the First Conmcatlonal church tor one concert, has done. The .chorus was organised In Russia in, 1 848 and has carried on uninterruptedly ever since. Its members have visited almost every country In the world and have the distinction of probably having received more medals and decorations than any other mu sical organisation In the world. They are enrolled as honorary members In over 100 musical so cieties in all parts of the world and possess over 50 medals that were bestowed upon them by rulers and potentates from many lands. Probably the most outstanding member, besides the director, Is Ivan Butenoff, the celebrated basso, who has sung with the choir for over 10 years. To hear his melodious bass volee blend ing with the other voices of the choir, is one of the great treats of the performance. The great Metropolitan opera basso, Challa- pln, who has astounded the whole country with his deep range. Is a very dear friend of Butenoff, who many years ago had the distinction of being able to reach clearly four notes low er than Chaliapin. Although the group Is known as a "choir" their work Is not confined to sacred selections. Quaint Ruaalan folk songs, pop ular ballads and musical num bers typical of Russia and other European countries are Included in the varied program that Is to be given here, In addition to sev erl English songs, Russian dances and orchestral numbers.
