Renewal of Strength
By REV. W. O. LIENKAEMPER
(Pastor Reformed Chnrch)
"They that wait upon the Lord, shall renen their strength
Is.: 149: 31.
Now that vacation days are over we eed strength for our
allotted tasks In the home or at school, In the workshop or at the
office. In oar text we have the promise of strength. There are dif
ferent kinds of strength: physical, intellectual and spiritual
rtrengtii. The source of all strenth is found in God. who has many
ways of renewing our strength.
Some people derive great benefits from the mountains; otn
ers, htre their strength renewed by risking the seashore; still oth
rs spend their vacation in camps and conferences, where they
combine study, recreation, and spiritual fellowship and come back
with' a new store of knowledge, a higher conception of life and
of service and also with renewed strength of body.
Vacation does not mean a period of Idleness, but rather of
change of occupation. An idler will take up his work with flab
by muscles, cobwebs on the brain and a grouchy spirit because
he did not wait upon the Lord for renewed strength of body,
mind and spirit.
This strength Is not communicated In a mechanical way. It is
a vital, dynamic power and It must be obtained by a rital pro-
CCSSo
We get it through faith and fellowship. That Is what "wait
upon the Lord" means. By faith we lay hold of God and through
it appropriate His mighty power. By faith we can say with Paul:
"I can do all threugh Christ who strength eneth me." And again!
"When I am weak then I am strong;" and by constant fellowship
with Christ and by working for Him we develop this strength, so
that according to the promise, "we shall mount up with wings
as eagles; shall run and not be weary; shall walk and not faint."
