(AP) Portland wholesale egg market to day reflected a firm position along with fair volume of receipts when the Pacific cooperative poultry producers announced a one cent advance on extras to 30 cents a dozen and on standards to 28 cents. Medium and pullets were quoted unchanged at 25 and 20 cents each. Butter market held firm at un changed prices. In the fruit and vegetable sec tion, trade in tomatoes has been demoralized since Wednesday's "bpening by heavy local receipts. Boxes were selling at irom 15 to 50 cents according to quality on the farmers early market. DiUard cantaloupes continue in demand at $2 to $2.50 a standard crate. Some Hales Best are in from Grand Island. Local ungraded Bartlett pears are cheap at 0 cents to $1.25 a box. Market is firm for good grade green corn and peas. Firm quality iced lettuce has started arriving from Seattle at the rate of about a car a day. NOT BE HARVESTED Unless som up swing comes in the prune market in the next fortnight, Earl Pearcy. local fruit man. Is of the opinion that less than half of the prune crop will be dried this fall. Never In his knowledge has there been so great an apathy on the part of prune men toward harvesting their crop, said Pearcy Thursday. Pearcy sees some hope in the fact that the prunes in Oregon this year are unusually large and many should run at the 30 40 grade which will be higher than the bulk of California prunes where there Is a heavy and consequently small-sized prune yield. Few growers have installed expensive cleaning equipment prescribed by the federal govern ment, aays Pearcy, because, the expense has not been Justified. Rather than go to this capital outlay some growers will do nothing with their crops. Pearcy feels. A reluctance on the part of canners and food distributors to buy the 1930-31 pack due to an uncertain market makes the sit uation entirely one of getting a buyer without much considera tion to price, -says Pearcy.
