Th prune situation la far from
being in a healthy position on the
local market at the present time,
with the. fruit in many Instances
selling at prices considerably less
than cost The local demand ad
far has been only moderate, with
th liberal and steadily Increas
ing supplies from the southeast
ern part ot th state and Oregon,
having placed offerings consid
erably In excess of the demand.
Dealers this morning were - gen
erally quoting a top of SO cents
per suitcase to th retail trade,
however, sales in many instances
wer made at around 40 and 45
cents. Indicating a drop of 10 to

when sales wer mad mostly at
55 to o cents.

Prunes packed in lug boxes
netting about 37 pounds each, ar
selling to a alow demand at
around $1.00 a lug otl th walk.
Receipts of th fruit packed la
lugs hgy been very light so far.
The increased duty on prunes
entering Canada may have con
siderable effect upon this season's
deal, in tending to curtail ship
ments into Canada. The duty
according to the Canadian min
ister of revenue, amount to 30
cents Oh th suitcases. On th
present basis of 30 cent t. o. b
Yakima, th fruit will cost 60 He

according to the fall marketing
report of the Federal-State Crop
reporting service. Oregon sheep
and lamb marketings during the
last four months of 1930. it is
estimated, will be nearly 20 per
cent or 130.000 head greater than
the same period of last year. Lim
ited hay and range supplies are
stimulating the livestock more-
meat.
Beef cattle numbers are being
increased tn some sections of the
state but for the state as a whole
numbers are about the same as
last year. There 1s a general
tendency to decrease sheep num
bers, especially where feed sup
plies are short. Marketings of
sheep other lhan Iambs will prob
ably be about the same as last
year, practically all ef the In
crease in marketings being la
lambs. The fall movement is ex
pected to be earlier than last
year to avoid shrinkage ot lambs
on dry ranges and pastures. The
condition and weight of Iambs
up to the present tim has been
about normal.
