Economic Conditions due to
Improve According to
U. S. Forecast
Economic conditions In the cat
tle industry are likely to lmprore
in the next twelve months accord
Ing to the beef cattle outlook re
port Issued by the bureau of ag
ricultural economics. United
States department of agriculture.
Market supplies of cattle In the
next five or six months probably
will be about the same as a year
ago, but supplies of fed cattl
during the first half of 1931 ar
expected to be smaller than in
1930. Demand tor stockers and
feeders this fall will not equal
that of last year and" for that
reason slaughter is likely to be
somewhat greater.
Prospects faror a continuation
of low imports of both live cat
tle and calves and of fresh and
frozen beef and veal. Consumer
demand for beef probably will
improve somewhat in the next six
months with the advent of cool
er weather, especially If there is
an improvement in industrial ac
tivity. Prospects favor mater
ial advance in cattl prices la the
next twely months.
Cattl production has expand
ed moderately since the low point
in numbers was reached la 1828.
Reduced demand for beet owing
to unfavorable business condi
tions, together with a declining
price level tor all commodities,
has caused a marked decline la
rattle price in the year Just past,
By raid-August of this year, pric
es of aU grades had declined be
low the low levels of 1826. and
prices of slaughter steers wer
38 per cent below the level of
1929. This decline, which carried
the market to the lowest levels la
fir years, accompanied . the
smallest marketings hnd ths
smallest Inspected slaughter since
1121.
Drought Canses

of the com belt wher most f

com production ha been mater

will be relatively better than ' In
other sections. Recent rains have

suply of course grains stray be
made up la part by Tending
