planned both formal and infor
mal for the coming week, both
for brides, brides-to-be and for
visitors. It Is a busy time for
all the vacationing.

Miss Elnora E. Thompson, well
known in Salem through her work
with the former Marion county
child health demonstration, is
being feted with a tea between

It is anticipated that there will

According to Mrs. Wesley Bow.
den, this convention will be the
largest and most satisfactory one
yet to be held.
The auxiliary session will be
called together at 10 o'clock
which will be followel by a joint
meeting of the legion and the
auillary, with addresses by Com
mander Sidney George, and a re
sponse by Mrs. Chaney.
Friday morning there will .be
ths breakfast for secretaries and
treasurers, the presidents' dinner
will be Riven at ths Getser Grand
hotel Friday night; there will al
to be a "miner's breakfast" serv
ed at 5:30 o'clock for which both
legion and auxiliary delegates are
invited.- Sheriff Cy J. Bingham
will be In charge and it is epect
ed that this will be one of the so
cial highlights. Friday night
there is being planned a midnight
matinee for the auxiliary.
Thursday (here will be a picnic
for the Gold Star mothers.
, There will be a number of tro
phies and awards presented for
which the units of the state have
been working this year. This pre
sentation will bold much interest
and will be made Saturday morn
ing. Mrs. Cheney, state president of
the auxiliary, speaking of the
coming convention has said:
"At the Baker convention will
be seen the results of the year's
rewards and chairmen and offi
cers will contribute the results of
their year's experience. I hops to
be able to greet personally many
of you at Baker and express ap
preciation for your loyalty. We
hare made elaborate plans to have
the convention sessions interest
ing and instructive. The Baker
unit is leaving nothing undone to
add to your comfort and pleasure.
So we wUl 'Make 'Er to Baker,'
where we anticipate the best con
vention yet."
It is expected that Mrs. Hollle
Hieder of Sheridan will be the
next state auxiliary president.
Missionary Group
To Picnic
One of the anticipated events
of the year so far as social activi
ties is concerned for the Calvary
Baptist Woman's Missionary so
ciety is the annual picnic. 'This
will be held this year at the coun
try home of Mr. and Mrs. H. S.
Gile at Boulder Knoll, Friday at
3 o'clock.
The afternoon meeting will be
followed by a picnic supper at
6:30 o'clock to which ths men
are being invited. The members
are asked to bring table accessor
ies. . Miss Nina McNary will have
charge of the afternoon devotions.
Mrs. G. E. Ross has arranged the
program which will be a book re
view of "Child Wives of India"
with a special feature in con
nection with the review.

Miss Eleanor Moors will sing
proceeding the ceremony. Miss
Moore will be unattended. She
will be gowned In a soft coral
pink chiffon ensemble with pic
ture hat to harmonize, and will
carry a shower bouquet of tweet
peas and rosebuds in pink shades.
Following tne ceremony mere
will be an Informal reception.
Mrs. Fred Moore, Mrs. Galea Sid-

both graduated from high school.
Mr. Pearson is In business there.

Michigan. These guests are on
a long -motor trip through the
United States, having left their

bride of Dr. J. B. V. Butler Jr..
youngest son of Dean and Mrs, J.
B. V. Butler of Monmouth. Rev.
Perry O. Hopper read the service
before a small group of close
friends and relatives.
The bride was attended by her
sister Miss Jans Cochran, and Dr.
Y. C. Addiz acted as best man.
Both Miss Cochran and Dr.
Butler are graduates of ths Ore
gon Normal school, and the doe

Returns From Trip
Mrs. a. V. Kills has lust re
turned from her home on North
Liberty street after having com
pleted a 7000 mile pleasure trip
with her son, H. I. Ellis, and
family of Rosalia, Washington.
The party left Salem June 10
taking the Oregon caves as the
first place at which to call
From here they drove through
the redwood forests to San Fran
cisco, and later to Tulare, Fres
no. Pasadena, Los Angeles, Long
Beach, San Diego, and across
lower California to Tucson, Ari
zona, and El Paso. Texas.
The Carlsbad cares were visit
ed and then the party moved on
to Oklahoma, where Mrs. Ellis
visited her brother and familv
at Lawton. Other Oklahoma
cities visited were Oklahoma
City. Panca City, and then north
to Kansas City and St. Joe. Mis
souri, and Omaha, Nebraska, and
woux city, iowa.
At Akron, Iowa, a visit was
paid to the old home of O. V.
Ellis' family. Here the late Dr.
G. V. Ellis practiced for many
years.
The return trip was made
through the Black Hills of South
Dakota, where the party camped
for several days, and on through
the Yellowstone National park.
Sflverton Rer. and Mrs.
George Henrlksen, former Silver
tonians, were honor guests at a
largereceptioh at their Seattle
home" on July 30. according to
word received by Sllverton friends.
The occasion was their 30th wed
ding anniversary and the 30th an
niversary of Rev. Henriksen's
services as a pastor of the Luth
eran church. Over 150 f Men-is
where present at the affair, and
their son George Henriksen, who
edits a newspaperjit Kent. Wash
ington, was toastmaster. Rt. Rev.
L. C. Foas. father of Rev. H. L.
Foss, of Sllverton, gave the main
address.- Messages were also read
from many of Rev. Henriksen's
former congregations.

congregation at Sllverton for nine
years leaving here for Washing
