PORTLAND, Ore., July 31
(AP) Portland lost its seventh
straight game tonight and went
undlsputedly into the cellar as
Hollywood won for the third time
in .the series, 12 to 4.
Despite the lowly standing of
the Beaver-Ducks, ladies' night
brought out a crowd of approxi
mately 10,000, of whom at least
4000 were paying customers.
Keating made his first start
for Portland since obtained from
Sacramento by trade. But the
Hollies found him easy and rag
ged support made it worse. In
the seventh the Hollies knocked
him off the hill and scored five
runs.

Maybe we expect too much of
a pair of wrestlers. Wednesday,
prior to the big match between
Sammy Vangler and Art Reilly,
some fans were greatly disturbed
in their minds because they had
seen Art and $ammy driving
around together in an automo
bile, apparently on the best of
terms.
That night, they snarled at
carta other in the ring; as of
old, and aptiarently did everj -thing
possible to mar each
other's features. The wimlnp
of their Ions; and grueling
match was virions enough to
suit anybody.
Somehow the impression got
around that there boys were not
on speaking terms, in the ring
or out of it. Possibly there were
misgivings lest they should meet
accidentally on the street, pound
each other to a pulp and cheat
the cash customers out of a view
of the bloody spectacle.
O
Now the fact if, the reason
these boys were driving
arband together in a car. is
that they had a SO-minnte
natch down at Astoria Tues- i
day night. The presumption
is that they drove down there
together, chatting amiably all
the way, braised each other up
In their wonted fashion for 30
minutes, then drove back to
gether on the Mime pleasant
basis.
O
The Morning Astorian says:
"Sammy Vangler, 138 pounds,
Portland, wrestled .Art O'Riley,
138 pounds, Portland, to a draw
in the 30 minute preliminary in
one of the best shows ever
staged in the local ring. Both
boys showed plenty of class and
technique and were worthy of a
main event on any card with the
kind of a bout they put up last
night."
All this may come as n
shock to some fans who
thought these boys were full
of murderous thoughts about
each other all the while. But
alter all, they were billed sim
ply for a wrestling match, not
a battle to the death. Wrest
ling, being defined, is a branch
of athletic tport in which two
men attempt to pin each oth
er's shoulders to a mat.
There's no guarantee they will
hurt each other, or eveu at
tempt it.
O
There is, however, an implied
guarantee that they'll wrestle
their best. Well, if there was
anything else to Wednesday
night's bout, those boys are
waatlncr their talents on wrest-
llne in this man's town. They
should be playing heavy dra
matic roles- in Hollywood.
Walter Arndt. of Prescott,
Ariz., was introduced Wednes
day night; challenged the win

welterweight champion. We
can't guarantee that, but will
vouch for his being the home
liest man that ever climbed
into an arena.
